I do like this game it has to be said but like any MMORPG it would become addictive. I found myself having a quick go on it before I left for the supermarket yesterday. Sat sown for 5 minutes to fly the ship around, visit spacedock bar etc I must have been on there for the best part of an hour trading goods I'd picked up in game for credits and dithium (game money). Yes goblin gold essentially.
One week night last week was the killer. I admit I shelled out some real world money to pimp my ship to the original series enterprise and buy all the old costumes for my crew. Yes the girls are all in those cool mini skirts now with knee high boots. And my character Gloy is a Vulcan and looks like a younger Spock. Geeky or what.
It took me 3 hours after I had purchased the costumes and new body from the store to actually find the tailor to fit the clothes and then the shipyard to pimp the ship. If you are not used to MMORPG then it's not the most user friendly but I'm finding my way slowly. Oh worth noting I have bought some bridge interious using real money but will have to wait until I have enough game money before I can fit it. That's worth knowing.
I had my reservations about graphics but that is quickly going as I have just hooked it up to the classroom TV (purely as a sound check for my next lesson, not to play
Oh the best part of the game? Probably whenever your captain levels up you can hear Leonard Nimoy say "Congratulations captain". Yes, the sound in this game is very good and you can hear all the ambient sounds and effects from the TV show. Music too.
I'm not even a Trekkie, even though I have seen most of the motion pictures. I'm starting to think I might have been converted though.
Gold membership is not worth it as a monthly subscription I have heard from the forums so in theory you can complete the game for free if you really didn't mind not having all the extra stuff for ship and crew.
I've probably spent about 50 dollars on this game already so it bit less if I had bought Skyrim. In theory you can play through to the end without buying anything. It would be a bit like walking around Warhammer World and not buying anything, possible but that's their business model right there as you already said.
After all the painting deadlines and rpg festivities I'm really enjoying this relaxing video game. Hope I can play it sometimes rather than all the time.
Gloy to bridge. Beam me up Scotty.
