Also, of course, even if GW crashes and burns, it's not like your rulebooks and armies will stop being playable. If anything, I expect it would make the gaming atmosphere more open to fan-made lists and "non-officially-supported" armies - like, oh, to pick a random example off the top of my head, Eldar Corsairs.

Re: ...aaaand another GW fail
I can see the lack of a "standard" game being a thing, I suppose - wargaming has been spoiled for a while by the utter monolithic dominance of 40K / WFB. It's something of an aberration, though, when you look at the history of the hobby, which is pretty fractured in terms of games played. It may just mean more and more people taking (or, if you like, having to take) my and Prim's approach of collecting at least two forces for our games of choice so we can always find opponents by making them.

Personally I'm hoping like hell that Rick P's new venture (GofA) is a tight ruleset that is sufficiently well written that it allows me to use my eldar/D eldar/CSM as different armies within their game setting. It would be a tricky thing to pull off, but if they manage it they may just be in a position to be ready and waiting to soak up all the players that 40k's fall would leave behind in a few years time. Here's hoping...
I would like to see this happen. Seeing Warlord Games pick up the 40K IP is sounding pretty nice as another option right about now too.

Completely agree with what MiJ and Spevna are saying regarding Rick's new game about it being a potential replacement for 40k. As I've said on the GoA thread, my hope too is that its a good ruleset that we can use those minis with. Glad to know that others are thinking the same, and that it could be a go to game in the future. I wonder if people in the worldwide gaming community will pull their heads out of the sand and try something outside their GW comfort zone?

Hmmn....
GW site has been down for about 24hrs, apparently. Certainly, it wasnt responding at 9:40 on sunday night. It may be a coincidental glitch but, still. Dang. Bad timing. Maybe it's a major site re-design? A big "FOR SALE" sign, p'raps?

Or as some bad evil person said on Dakka: the late admins that were given the "GREAT NEWS" (tm) that they were fired had still the access codes.

Re: ...aaaand another GW fail
No doubt most of you've seen - An email in the inbox this morning from GW exhorting me to purchase some Tyrannic war set while I still have the chance. It costs about 150GBP and includes a grand total of 18 infantry models and 2 drop pods.
Better snap them up while there's time.
Seriously though, given the 24 percent share value drop (wasn't it?) they offer a non-deal like that? Daft, I calls it.

Wow, a 24% drop in shares! That is something to be alarmed by.

I haven't gone over the numbers myself but someone in Dakka said that the Carnifex+friends box does have a hefty discount so GW does realize the fact that they need to "lower prices" somehow to increase sales after the shareholder report.
On the other hand there is a rumour saying that they are going to melt all the remaining metal stock and sell it for scrap. Goodbye Sisters!

Not commented in here yet as I wasn't sure how I felt.
GW eventually go under!
cons: no more citadel paint
Pros: Rick Priestley takes back 40k
We are free to play whichever edition of Warhammer we choose without the annoyance of new edition rule sets and codexes slowing us down by having to relearn everything.
It opens up the market to the smaller companies of miniature games out there.
I can start enjoying Warhammer again with a more home brew feel.
That's all

Re: ...aaaand another GW fail
I hate to say it but isn't the IP for 40k and Warhammer at this point way out of the league of Mr Priestly and any other gaming company? Think of the value of the 40k brand to even sell video games. If GW were to some how flop, I think the IP would end up in a corporation that cough up more than any mere war miniature company could muster.
And in the hands of a company like Hasbro or EA, I'd hate to think what they'd do to the 40k universe we know. It'd probably make Kirby look like a martyr.
