How do you get along with your babies and minis?

Post by asch » Tue May 31, 2011 1:32 am

I've just got my first baby, thanks to the Goodness!

For a month or so, my son and wife will stay at my wife's parents' home, but I've started thinking about how to keep my hobby going after they come back home. So I like to ask you with experience for advice.

How do you guys deal with problems like choking hazard, prime sprays (not good for children's health, mothers say) and etc. ? How do you get your minis (expecially under assembly) away from your children? Where and how do you prime your minis with primer spays?

おめでとう! What's Asch-chan's name?
I don't keep my miniatures out where anyone can get to them. Even now that my children are 7 and 10 and I don't have to worry about choking. Keep my paints and the miniatures I'm painting in a box and up on top of a shelf. I get up early in the morning and paint before anyone wakes up. I put everything back in the box when it's time to go to work. I only paint one miniature/unit at a time. I don't have space to work on 3 projects at once.
I prime/seal on sunny days outside in the park or on the stairs outside my apartment.
Babies are the best miniatures. Good luck! Sleep as much as you can! You'll need it!

I'm pretty lucky in that I have my own hobby room so it isn't an issue. But before buying my house I used to keep my stuff on a desk in another room that my daughter never went in and would also keep it in boxes and out of reach.

In an Apartment I can not see how one would keep a large amount of hobby junk away from a baby... I have kept my stuff in a separate room every time. I just cannot see how I could have done it any other way... good luck and remember that hobby time can be spent with your child. Kenya loves to play 40k and Nairobi loves to play space hulk...

Thank you guys for your friendly advise!
My son, 啓太朗 (Keitaro) is now 10 days old today. I'm staying at my wife's parents' home with him for a night and day, and previewing the troubles when he comes home ;-)
I would get my hobby and study room when I get my own house. For now, I should clear some of my shelves to keep boxes with models under construction.
