Sports

Post by Spevna » Thu Apr 19, 2012 10:47 pm

Foul rumours about The Spevna liking girly-man sports such as synchronised swimming and figure skating have been thrown around with wild abandon recently.

The Spevna is curious to see which sports people on here actually enjoy watching.

The Spevna enjoys;

Olympic weightlifting
Hammer throw
Shot put
Javelin
Highland games
Strongman events
Football
Rugby
Boxing
MMA

So, which sports float your boat?

You have seen through The Spevna's facade.

Which team do you support?

I dont watch sports, at least, I dont choose to watch sports. My wife sometimes watches sport on TV, so when we sit down to dinner together I see maybe 15 minutes or so.

My wife likes Volleyball, Figure Skating  (its funny when they fall down at least  ) and the Japanese National Football games.

My only interest in sports is that they keep my wife entertained whilst I go off and do some painting or model making.

Japanese women seem to have an affinity for volleyball.

Mrs Spevna gets quite involved when the Japanese women's team are playing.

The Spevna grudgingly admits that he too can sometimes find volleyball quite an exciting game to watch.

Looks like we are putting our wivese preferences out there so I will start with what she likes.
My wife likes K1 and football
She calls that last one soccer.

As for me.
I like football And American football
Playing and watching.

Boxing can be fun to watch
But K1 is better.

I love ice hockey highlights.

Bull-riding, now that is fun to watch.

I think the Spevna may be more keen on curling that he wants people to know about. He also may have a keen eye for mutton busting.

I think it would be misleading to say I support any football team, but I was raised in Glasgow and went to a catholic school, so that means Celtic are the only team I can lay claim to. I did support them properly while I was in Scotland - watched the games on the telly in the pub with the guys every week etc etc. also, my great grandad played for em, too. That's a claim to supporting them, I suppose :)

As for the missus, it's ice skating and sync swimming. She got quite into the footie during the world cup, but I wouldn't all her a fan.

Like most folks on this forum, I was surprised, to say the least, by the Spevna's sports proclivities. Each to their own and all that but figure skating does not float my boat. :D

Oddly enough, being a Kiwi, I am rather fond of rugby. My claim to fame is that I played high school rugby with a future all black. However, at the time I thought he was a bit of a tool. Going to see the ABs smash Japan, during the World Cup, in my hometown last year with my Dad, Bro' and best mate was amazing. One of the highlights of my life, outside weddings/kids etc. Thanks to Sky I get to see almost all of New Zealand's international games plus quite a few super 15 matches. Hopefully, the Chiefs can go all the way this year. Kia kaha!

I have also come to enjoy the round ball version of football in the last couple of years after previously viewing it with utter disdain. Watching the All Whites in the last world cup with a bunch of like minded kiwis was great fun. My son has also starting playing soccer so we watch the premier league and various other games on TV. I don't particularly support any team but cheer for Arsenal or Norwich if push comes to shove. Conversly, I can't say as though I like Chelsea or Liverpool that much. Not enough to make me bottle the blues loving Spevna though :D . I also semi-quasi-pseudo support PSG after being brain washed by a French home stay student. Soccer also makes for a great video game and I have played several editions of Fifa.

Soccer Quiz...

In the last World Cup what was the only undefeated team?

No Googling!
