Wish-Listin'

Post by The Other Dave » Mon Jul 23, 2012 8:01 am

Man, I have apparently hit a "grown-up" phase in my wargaming hobby. All the stuff I want is dead boring.

1. Cases! Oh, boy!
-I need a case for my FoW stuff, without which I really don't have space to get any more FoW stuff.
-I need new cases for almost all my Epic stuff - I want to segregate all my armies, and give the Eldar and Tyranids actual cases instead of the 100-yen-store plastic jobbies they're in now. My all-plastic Marines and Orks live in plastic cases just fine, but resin and metal minis want a bit more protection.
Fortunately KR's card cases are nice and affordable, but I still need probably half a dozen of 'em. And their system is crazy complicated and I'm all paranoid I'll screw up, heh.

2. Terrain! Sexy!
-I want a whole mess each of felt roads and rivers from Hotz. Nice stuff! My own handmade felt roads and rivers are pretty ghetto.
-I want another whole mess of 1:285 acrylic buildings from GameCraft, and I want to base them up right as scatter terrain with a few buildings per piece. The card buildings from Space Marine are charming, but are getting a little beat up around the edges and natty-looking.
-Some of those GameCraft factories have big entrances that would look really awesome with train tracks coming out of them. Z gauge is 1:220 and very affordable.

Putting 1. and 2. together, I probably ought to graduate from the random collection of cardboard boxes and cupboards I'm currently keeping all my terrain in, and consolidate somehow. For one thing, that dense blue insulation foam is great for hills and such, and very sturdy, but I've got some blue corners showing through from all that rubbing up against each other in transit.

What a whole bunch of boring, middle-aged things to want for wargaming!

(Mostly I'm telling myself this as I start feeling the old eBay pull again. No new minis! Be strong!)

Good luck, Dave! Ebay is the boon and bane of every gamer's wallet.

My list includes:
1) Tons and tons of FOW of stuff (EW French, finishing the options for LW Americans, fiddling with kitting out the Germans for MW; oh and what about a new Soviet army? Yikes!) Still, I'll settle for a few things to paint and model.
2) A new model bag. Preferably the Battlefoam bag for FOW.
3) Terrain. I want rivers, roads and forests from GF9. Also fortifications and houses for 15mm games.
4) Epic? - 40k has slid to out of my current interests.

(I feel like I should note, parenthetically, that I basically started this thread to stop myself from hanging around on eBay and thinking about buying lots more Epic stuff I don't need at all.)

Seriously, that last lot. A huge lot including an Imperator now standing at less than $5. You see single Imperators going for $150 or more. It'll go up, of course, but the seller probably made a big fumble listing it the way he did.

But no! I will be strong and buy boring boring minis cases.

I ordered about 5 more KR cases from Maelstrom during their last sale and to be honest, I probably could use a whole lot more.

(So of course I turn around and order a couple thousand yen of stuff from Brigade. I really need to work on the ol' willpower.)

Thats the spirit!
My KR cases shipped today, so I should have them in a week or so. Then, after they are full I can look at ordering more. :D

Oh, and dont dismiss terrain as being boring. Terrain, at least the good stuff, is frickin' awesome stuff. :D

Yeah, I think I'll have to get cases next month and some terrain the next.

Now I get to just obsess over cases. I'm leaning towards just getting replacement foam for a couple of my GW cases, since I'm planning on re-casing all the Epic stuff I have in a GW case anyway. I *ought to* be able to fit everything in 2 cases that way - one for Imperials and one for Xenos - and it'd only set me back about 4000 yen.

for sure terrain aint boring! I reckon there's loads of ways to use the pre-made terrain (even GW stuff) and mix it in with your own custom built stuff to make it all look awesome. Custom built stuff is great for making it your own original table, and you can use bits of pre-made stuff for the finicky detail that would otherwise take ages.

1) clothes that fit! seriously, I've lost 16 kilos in the past 10 months and almost nothing fits anymore.

2) Greeks for FoW

3) more battletech, books, campaigns and minis to make factions

4)to get my desire to really paint back

Oh, don't get me wrong, I love terrain. Mostly it's that I have a lot, and terrain purchases from here on in will be with the aim of replacing and retiring some natty-looking stuff from my collection. Which is always less sexy than completely new stuff.
