I have come to the conclusion that my policy of loathing GW with every fiber of my being is a misplacement of my loathing.

I have decided to start congratulating them. They have created products and business model that allows them to sell said products at insanely inflated prices safe in the knowledge that somewhere, someone will buy them. I would love to be able to apply that to my own business! I'd be retired by the end of the month!!

While the minis are nice, and I am impressed at GW's business acumen in being able to sell them, I find myself hoping that whoever is stupid enough to buy them dies before having the chance to procreate and contaminate the gene pool.

A fair sight cheaper and netting you Celeborn and a fountain into the deal.
You can probably work it out even cheaper than that as Gandalf came in the Moria starter box as well, so there are bound to be a few up on ebay for next to nothing.

And as a point of reference, this is how the trolls look in the movie.

are they doing it on purpose, do you think? I mean, maybe they got tied in to a contract with New Line, and now HAVE to make a Hobbit range. Having consulted their lawyers, they have decided to let loose their trainee sculptors on the range, because hey, a bit o practice never did anybody any harm. Likewise the crazy prices. Some bean counter somewhere suggested it, and the management said "hey, why not? Let's see, just out of curiosity, how far we can push people."

Seriously, though - they have got to be targeting a different demographic with this range. The new 40k really seemed to tick a lot of boxes amongst the more experienced gamers, and the DV box also went down very well (and having seen the box badruck very kindly brought over and allowed me to unwrap, heh) I can vouch for them being absolutely superb sculpts. This new hobbit crap, though, just seems to be a quick buck from the newbies kinda product. I dunno, it's pure speculation, but I get the impression that there isnt going to be much long term support for the range. Get the punters in, sell em overpriced junk, and if they can cream off 1 in 10 over to fantasy/40k, then all to the good.

It is as good a reason as I can think of.
Sell crappy sculpts to kids who don't know any better.
Kids pressure parents into buying it because they have just seen the movie and now love The Hobbit.

They have tanked games according-to-rumor-on-purpose with ridiculous pricing before. *coughEpiccough*

Can't say I am impressed by the trolls nor the guy with branches stuck to his feet. The Goblin King looks ok until you look at his legs. Gah!

Not that it bothers me as I have no intention of buying/playing it. :D

This just in folks. Breaking news.
I can confirm through my power of second sight that Tolkien is turning yes that's official he is turning in his Elven grave at the release of these minis. ;)
Forget about yesterday, don't worry about tomorrow because all that matters is today.
