New Star Wars movie

Post by me_in_japan » Tue Jan 29, 2013 2:48 am

I know that it's old news that Disney bought lucasfilm, and thus the rights to Star Wars. I believe the new one (episode 7) is due out in 2015. So far, so meh. But then I heard JJ Abrams is directing. Suddenly, I have to confess I find myself experiencing a feeling I thought was long lost to my childhood. I'm...actually excited about Star Wars. Tentatively so, at the moment, but still...

In other news - Bryan Singer is doing the new Xmen movie, Sin City 2 comes out soon (ie this year) and People Who Know These Things are already talking about marvel doing a third wave of movies (involving Ant man and Doctor Strange)

Yeah, so I've been reading movie news pages on the net. Just thought I might share...

I must be the only one pessimistic. I think J.J. Abrams is a hack and a lousy style-over-substance director. There might be some hope if the script and casting are good…

I love that term 'hack' predominantly a very American word and one that's had a bit of a rebirth in recent years. Perhaps I didn't know as many people from the US and Canada in the past. It puts me in mind of a 1940s film noir. The guy was a hack! What could I say. It sounds like a word from the 20s.

I'll await the new film eagerly, won't watch any previews, trailers or hype and watch it in a half full cinema in Tsu, probably with Dave, then like The Hobbit and Promethius be pleasantly delighted.

I watched Promuthius alongside the alien films a week ago. It wasn't as good on DVD and now that I know its a prequel. It was a great film in the theatre when I had no prior knowledge of what the film was. A good surprise.
More films should hide what they contain its so much more engaging when we haven't seen trailers or marketing.

I have to agree with ash - I try to avoid trailers of any kind, for both movies and computer games. They only ever raise your expectations. Far better to expect a mediocre movie and be pleasantly surprised than to expect the world and be disappointed. If a movie is good you'll hear about it from friends or just hear about it on the grapevine.

+1 Sometimes the trailers are BETTER than the movie. :D Sometimes they help you avoid watching absolute dross.

As a long time fan of the Star Wars Saga, I have to say I'm very excited that the final three movies are going to be made. I know there's a lot of pressure for it to live up to the original trilogy, but still I doubt I'll be all that disappointed with what they put out.

I like JJ Abrams and his take on Star Trek. I like the fact that the original actors will have some kind of role in the new movie as well. Of course, I hope that their involvement is limited to more supporting work, but still it helps with the transition.

Hopefully just in the first few moments of the movies as a Hutt feeds him to his pet rancor ;)

If Disney have control of Star Wars I wonder if Lego will continue with their line? Are they completely different or does Disney own the IP now?
