3D scanner

Post by YellowStreak » Tue Mar 10, 2015 9:05 am

Came across this new 3D scanner today that was apparently crowdfunded. $600 USD.

Now combine that with the ever-improving 3D printing and our hobby is certainly in for interesting times in the near future!

I'm sure there'll be much wailing and gnashing of teeth in Nottingham.
GW will probably add something to their minis that causes scanners to burst into flames

Interesting times ahead. I wonder if we'd see something like a near invisible mark that would signify "do not copy" to the 3D scanner and cause a scan to stop/fail.
It would require some kind of legislation and international agreements, but there are all sorts of little things like that out there. e.g.: http://computer-hardware.wonderhowto.co ... ts-271717/

I'm curious about the accuracy it can replicate. Also at $600 it still may be cheaper to buy the figures. Of course if you want that full chapter...

You would definitely need a high resolution on the scanner and again on the printer. I think it is still going to be more than a few years before these things become common household items.

...can't wait to get one though. :D
