Interesting. The split rulings on differing accounts seems to imply that GW won't just have its way with copyright rules. Maybe this is a victory for small makers in general, but I wonder if it is rather Pyrrhic for Chapterhouse. $25 000 for a small maker is no pocket change.

It's probably the best result possible, GW keep their IP, but the door is open for third party makers to legally produce add ons and accessories without fear of C&D letters. And personally I like the fact that the obnoxious manager of CHS got slapped with a rather substantial fine.

I think in one of the earlier posts on BoLS they reported that CHS had a turnover of about 100,000 USD. Once you knock off costs, taxes and overheads, that figure is probably around 50,000 USD. That fine looks like it will put a sizeable dent in CHS's profit margin.

As long as it results in high quality parts being made for GW minis, I reckon it's a good thing. If it results in cheap, shitty sculpts for proxying as GW models, then that kinda sucks. Time will tell, I suppose...

To Appeals we will go!

Still waiting on the Final Judgement to see if Justice Kennelly holds an opinion or not but things might be looking good for GW.

Surprised I'm not dishing GW? My point is that for ages GWHQ has been living in an ivory tower comfortable that GW was the ultimate company in miniature tabletop games and nothing could ever compare. From behind their IP Fortress Walls and IP Moat (their words not mine  ) they could see all the other competitors either die or in some cases be C&D to oblivion. Alas CHP stood their ground and GW found that their walls were not up to desired protection levels.

Now GWHQ can do two things, learn to live with the fact that there is a world out there and finally decide to listen to their clients or continue as they are comfortable that CHP is a momentary reversal and that GW is the HHOBBY and nothing can beat the HHOBBY. If the later, a stagnant economy in their main markets and other troubles will bleed the company to death and everybody will suffer a little and then move on. If the former I can see many oportunities for the everybody as GW gears up for true competition.

I honestly think that when they put their minds to it GW is capable of being creative, deliver great models and even (sometimes) good rules too. Now they have a reason to. Will this suit spur the company to improve and give us bits, miniatures for every unit in the codexes and all those things we were missing and GW didn't feel magnanimous enough to deliver? I hope so, that way we will be able to enjoy years of Nagoyahammer with new cool stuff and not just another price hike  ...

If not I already have 3 starters for Warzone on the line from Prodos games :D

Chapterhouse could make a limited miniature to raise the 25.000 dollar

A not-slaneesh demonette buggering a GW customer with her claw would be Nice! :P

HA!

After all the hoo-hah about how Chapterhouse and their legal team 'beat' GW, it is kind of funny how Chapterhouse's stance on using GW terms has mysteriously changed.

And that was the best they could come up with?

Looks like CHS may have 'beaten' GW, but GW still gets to keep all the best terms.
