NH24 - Other Games (Sat May 4th) Planning Thread

Post by Primarch » Mon Nov 06, 2023 1:17 am

With the days now sorted, it's time to discuss what people want to do on the second day. As 40K will be taking centre-stage on the Friday, there won't be any option for 40K on the Saturday. Other GW games are fine though.

I know ToD has mentioned running an Underworlds Event, but if anyone else would like to manage a mini-event please speak up.

Similarly, if there are any games you are hoping to play, this is the thread to discuss options.

We have the room from 9am to 9:30pm, so we'll probably break things down into 3 hour slots with a couple of breaks for meals. For mini-events like ToD's Underworlds you can arrange your own schedule to suit the length of your games.

Morning 09:30-12:30
Lunch
Afternoon 13:30-16:30
Break
Evening 17:30-20:30

If there is a game you'd like to play, please let me know, then we can set up a separate discussion thread for it. I'd like players to be responsible for managing their own games in terms of points values, scenarios etc. I'm happy to loan out terrain and minis if people need it. If you want to run Demo games, that is fine too.

Would a co-op/PVE mode of 40K be OK? I'm toying with the idea of Fury of the Swarm for a bit more of a narrative/friendly/OK to use whatever the hell units you want outlet.

It does involve getting a lot of Nids together but I have enough for one table at least.

On the one hand a handful of guards/marines/eldar facing off against a huge swarm sounds cool, but on the other I'd like to discourage having a second 40K day.
Hmm...

If you were willing to provide everything for one table (Terrain, Nids and the opposition) and then run it, (You could participate of course, but you'd be responsible for explaining all the rules, getting players organized etc.) I guess that could work. That way people who don't play 40K could give it a try too.

Yeah I realise "what could I do on the non 40k day...I know, 40k!" Is a bit off theme but I was thinking it would have a very different feel, and PVE play would let anyone who missed out on bringing a favourite centrepiece model the previous day bring it along to blow away a few bugs.

I can very easily supply forces for anyone to use though, and my own terrain should be more than sufficient. Just a matter of figuring out transport for it all to and from Inazawa, but I was in that boat anyway.

I'm not committed to the idea yet, but it has potential.

Any of those would be great. I've tried Legions and it was fun. I'd suggest just choosing one game to focus on and put on a great demo, but it's up to you if you want to do games of all three.

I think everyone knows I love old, old GW skirmish games.
Anybody feeling nostalgic? Or want to try a game that has stood the test of time and remains awesome even after 30 years!

Gorkamorka! It is more a random vehicular mayhem generator than a game, but it is an awesome vehicular mayhem generator.
Necromunda! The community edited Living Rulebook is just aces. The nerds took the original rules apart, and have lovingly ironed out all the problems and grey areas over the last few decades.
Mordheim! Back to the Old World! And fish!
Oh! Oh! I could do 1st ed SPAAAACE HUUUUULK!

I just don't think I can pack all 4. As much as I'd like to.
...and now his Head was full of nothing but Inchantments, Quarrels, Battles, Challenges, Wounds, Complaints, Amours, and abundance of Stuff and Impossibilities.....

Just to verify, I am planning on running an Underworlds tournament on this day, and 9:30 ~ 4:30, lunch inclusive, should be plenty of time if any potential participants also want to do something else in the evening slot.

I'll start a thread up eventually, but the plan is to make it very casual-friendly, and probably have warbands and decks of my own to loan out on the day if people just want to dip their toes in the game.
Feel free to call me Dave!

Have people had any more thoughts on what they'd like to play on this day? Would anyone like to run any demo games or organize a mini event?

We technically have the room until 9:30, but as it will take some time to put away all of the terrain, we can realistically play from 9am until 8:30pm.

As for myself, I'm hoping to be able to run demo games of Op-En, but we will see how things shake out.
