You can AFFORD armour? Wow.Spevna wrote:Mordheim is a fun game but the rules for armour need to be redone I think.
Mordheim is fun, lets talk about it.

Mordhiem is fun! Spevna is right about the armor. The 2 contentious issues about Mordhiem is
A. Armor is useless, basically
B. There is very little reason to not dual-wield. (Fight with a sword and club, or axe and dagger) Sort of boring when everyone is using the same style. (A sword, morning-star/club, helmet, and lucky charm is a hero)
Lots of discussion on the net, lots of solutions.
Check out the Specialist games site, and I think you can find the "Armor options A,B,C" under the experimental rules.
The few times I've played recently, we used "Option C" which is in summary
1. Critical hits don't negate armor
2. Shields confer a +2 save bonus in hand to hand combat, if you are using a single hand wpn (spear, rapier, etc). A +1 vs ranged attacks.
3. Bucklers confer a +1 save bonus in hand to hand combat, as above. No bonus vs. ranged attacks.
4. Models dual wielding suffer a -1 to hit modifier on all attacks.
5. Add the skill "Manic Warrior" to the Combat skill list. This skill negates the above dual wield penalty.
We also (I talked my opponents into it) to change the lucky charm rule. We said that when you buy a lucky charm, mark it with an asterisk or question mark. If the first time you ever use it, it is successful (you roll a 4+ ) you erase the mark and are the proud owner of a lucky charm. If you fail the roll, erase the charm from your roster. (Stupid piece of sh**. Lucky! My A**!" )

Re: Mordheim is fun, lets talk about it.
Those rules sound pretty reasonable, mostly, I reckon. I'm right up there with the whole "shields should be better in H2H" but at the same time, am not that happy about the -1 to hit for 2 hand weapons. I have a beastman gang. They ALL have 2 hand weapons...
Last time I played my (fairly experienced) beastmen against Eric's (much less experienced) amazon gang, for pretty much the whole game my beastmen charged into combat, the amazons hit first cos they all had spears, then my beastmen failed to hit due to the -1 modifier. repeat until gang is dead.
Does anyone have any idea what could be done about this situation, bar just flat out not taking beastmen? The trouble is that they cant take any ranged weapons, and anything bigger than an ungor cant take spears. Its hand weapons (swords, maces etc) or double handed weapons. Thats yer lot.
I'm aware that this situation is a somewhat unusual one, and that the rules suggested earlier do work better for most everybody else. I'm more than happy to go along with them for the greater good. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions.

If you're going last take great weapons. If you survive those poxy little pointy sticks you can cleave some folks in two.

Remember you took on both my Amazon (Wood Elf) and Stu's Dwarves at the same time. We thinned you down a bit at range. I seem to remember once you did hit us (me!) my girls getting bashed pretty good.me_in_japan wrote:Those rules sound pretty reasonable, mostly, I reckon. I'm no mathmatician, but I'm willing to bet that the chances of getting 1 hit with 2 dice needing a 5+ is about the same as getting one hit with one die at 4+.
And hey, poxy little spears rule. You've seen "Troy" right?

Re: Mordheim is fun, lets talk about it.
tis true, both the dwarves and the amazons did a fair bit of shooting. I was just kinda hoping that having made it into h2h my guys mighht have fared a little better. In fact, the only guy who did any good at all was Mad Hamish, and we all know what happened to him...

Gahh! The Admiral's Lizardmen are awful! I played him before our Elf/Dwarf alliance vs. Mad Hamish game, and it was just watching my arrows plink off Saurus and the Skinks run up last turn and claim the objectives. We did have a cool Kroxigor/Saber Tooth tiger fight! Very 1000000 BC.
