(sound of crickets chirping)

Well, on the off chance that there's more Epic fans lurking or passing through, or any folks who're curious about Epic, here's a topic!

Hi, my name's Dave, and I have a soft spot for tiny tiny models. By Epic: Armageddon reckoning, I have about 7-8000 points each of Blood Angels, Steel Legion, Orks and Titan Legions, and a 3000-point and growing Iyanden Craftworld force. It's pretty much all painted, 'cause I'm anal that way.

The upshot being, if anyone wants to try out a game, I'd be more than happy to do a demo! It's good fun - one of GW's best rulesets in pure game terms, in my (admittedly probably biased) opinion.
Feel free to call me Dave!

Personally I prefer the old 2nd Edition rules for Epic, I guess thats just because I played it so much when I was a kid. There are a set of rules online called Net-Epic which are a fan made cross between Space Marine and Epic 40,000.

Yeah; one of the problems with a game with a long history and multiple rulesets with non-trivial differences is that you end up with people liking one version over another.

Personally I just *love* Armageddon's command and control rules and alternating activation order - everything else is just gravy. Unit stats hit a kind of a sweet spot between the extreme abstraction of Epic 40,000 and the (sometimes) extreme fiddliness of Space Marine as well - they accomplish a lot of differentiation between units and armies with a fairly small set of mostly-universal special rules, which helps a bunch with balance issues. It's actually a strong wargame in the "game" sense, which (let's be frank) not all GW games are.

De gustibus non est disputandum, though, I suppose. :)

I'd love to try epic out. I've always been curious about it, but not currious enough to just go out and start a new army

I am keen to try it out, looks like a lot of fun. If you would be willing to demo a game, I would be more than willing to make the trip to Nagoya or, if you want, I could play host in Yokkaichi as I have my own school so space is always available :)
