... but it's so pretty...

Post by AndrewGPaul » Sat Jun 30, 2012 8:08 pm

Sigh.
ten days ago on Facebook, I wrote:So, 40k 6th edition ... do any of us really care? I don't mean the people who already don't care about 40k, but for those of us who dabble; will we be buying into it?

Personally, I don't see the point. There's not a huge amount wrong with the core rules of 5th edition; the problems are in the army lists, in cramming too many models onto too small a board and in not being sufficiently abstract in certain areas. I don't see 6th edition doing anything to fix those issues, so there's no need for me to buy it.
Today? Now I have a shiny new copy of the rulebook. I'm a bad, bad man.

To make matters worse, I'm eyeing up one of those silly skull tape measures. :)

I understand the syndrome. Past 2 editions I got the collectors edition book. This time... Well, I just spent (nay, haemorraged) a large amount of money on sedition wars, so for the moment my splurger's remorse keeps me from capitulating to the evil empire. I'll be hunting down a mini rule book on eBay tho, once the box set is out.

I got my rulebook today from Ikeda san.
I know, I know, I said I wasn't going to buy it, but I like to have an actual copy to read and my need for instant gratification wont let me wait until september for the pocket sized version.

I will say this for the new book, if I wanted to, I could kill someone with it. It is HUGE and it weighs a tonne.
Lots of very nice eye candy, new artwork and even some sneak peaks of new chaos minis if you look in the right places....

Easy to carry around to games then, I guess

I would need a couple of heavy duty servitors and even then I might be pushing things a little.

Pretty much agree with all the posts. Said I wasn't interested in the new rules and somehow ended up with the ultimate collector's set. :) Almost got two because of a goof that GW made, but turns out I was too honest to take advantage of it... All and all, think I dropped about $2K US on hobby related stuff over the last two weeks, most of it furniture (work station and table with chairs), but sadly still don't have a Japanese language version of the book for my son. :(

While it was way too much money, the collector's set did have some cool goodies. LOL, reminds me, believe I grunted when I lifted the collector's set box. It was surprisingly heavy. Anyhow, I've already framed and mounted the poster in my hobby room and will frame the cards today. The satchel is even presentable and sturdy enough to carry the book. The Collectors ed has taken up residency in my 40K library and once the mini rule book comes out I'll end up gifting the standard rule book to a family member because it's just not that handy to carry around.

Time to go assemble the new table.

Later,
Paul
