10th Ed Digital Release BEFORE Leviathan

Post by Primarch » Wed May 31, 2023 9:30 pm

For those of you hoping to play 10th sooner rather than later, the chatter elsewhere on the web has the digital downloads as:

2nd June - Core Rules & Quickstart guide (So tomorrow evening???)

5th June - Leviathan datasheets

8th June - Tyranid datasheets

9th June - Space Marine datasheets

10th June - Leviathan preorder

12th June - Other Space Marines (BA, DA, SW, DW, maybe other successors)

13th June - Chaos datasheets

14th June - Imperial datasheets

15th June - Xenos datasheets

16th June - GT Pack and Points

20th June - Combat Patrol datasheets

23th June - Boarding Patrol and Crusade

24th June - Leviathan launch

Take witha grain of salt, but we'll know soon if this is accurate.

If true we'll be able to play Matched Play on games day but not Combat Patrol, which is the exact opposite of ideal for learning

The idea of releasing and hyping bit by bit actually makes some sense compared to just dropping it all in one massive overloading batch I guess?

I think it's to avoid having their website go into meltdown as much as it is to hype things. :D

Well this is good news if true! This should be everything we need just in time for games day.

That's true, but I suppose there's nothing really stopping us from playing small games with just our combat patrol forces anyway. I think the main difference with combat patrol is just slightly modified data sheets with fixed wargear right?

We won't have missions sized for 500pts either, and the adjustments are supposed to be good for balance so I'm going to assume we'd get some wild old 9th style patrol fights without them

Neither of those are blockers but I think it'll depend on whether any of the folks interested in trying out 10th are keen to play this month, or if it'll be mostly existing 9th players who are ready to go this early. If the former, I think you're right and we just cobble together some small games to learn the rules, if the latter I think Incursion is probably the sweet spot, we can get some practice in this month and then be in a good position to teach the game next month.

Either way I think I'll aim to bring multiple Combat Patrols along to the July day so I can lend them out to folks to try the game.

I'm kind of not excited for combat patrol, but mostly because the Death Guard combat patrol requires Typhus and 30 poxwalkers, which is kind of pants.
Feel free to call me Dave!

That's honestly one of the things I'm most excited for in Combat Patrol - how the hell do they make *that* work? Against Custodes?

Yeah, this is what I'm curious to see as well. The Guard combat patrol is like 300 and something points. How they balance that will be interesting to see.
My guess is they just won't.
I think there'll be more emphasis placed on accessibility than balance since it's aimed at new players instead of competitive ones.

I think running a bunch of 1000pt games would be just as fine as well though. None of us are really 'new' players and the new detachments are relatively simplified compared to the armies in 9th, so it shouldn't be too hard for us to pick up.
