Well, I'm interested in seeing what they change. Has there been any 40K edition change where a large number of people stopped playing because of the new rules? Which edition do people think is the best?

I know when the last edition of Dungeons and Dragons came out (4th, I mean) it was the first time many players said no and stuck with 3rd edition or switched to other games. (although I guess that would be more difficult in 40k unless you had a dedicated group of gamers who felt the same way)

The way I've always understood the marketing strategy of GW is this, it always seems to me that they bring out a new edition and allow enough time for a pre teen to get into the hobby, half paint his/her army, hit 14, discover girls and rock n roll (or whatever) and give up the hobby just in time for their younger siblings to inherit the army and buy the new edition rules and codex. The Vets on the other hand, go unthanked and suffer for the love of the hobby. Right people. ;) :)

I liked 2nd edition and 5th. I don't know much about the others. I thought 2nd was more interesting. I was 11 at the time though.

It really is not that hard to play an old edition but most people could if the wanted to. I am in favor of writing our own rules. And playing with what ever model one wants too

I think I wont be buying the hardback edition this time around. My 5th ed hardback book hasn't been used since I got the small paperback edition. What a waste of cash that was. I may have to wait a couple of months to get it, but I dont mind. More time to play 5th. Despite the problems some people seem to have with the codexes, I think 5th is the best version yet, so 6th had better be made of pure awesome or I am going to be rather sad.

As Underdweller points out, when D and D 4th ed. hit, a lot of people ignored it and kept on playing the previous version. Eventually those people got sick of not having any new material and a different company (who had previously had a license to publish material for the 3rd edition) put out a rule set that was pretty much a carbon copy of D and D 3rd edition. It was very popular for a new game. :D

See now that's what I am talking about. We do not need GW if the rules suck make up your own if the models are too expensive. Get some off eBay.

I'll buy it (though I think I'll wait for the paperback this time). I'll play it. I mean, I've played and enjoyed all the other 6 editions. There was never a "need" to change any of them really. It's all marketing and business and I understand and accept that.
But I'll buy it from Ikeda or the FLGS back home.

Agreed, this will be the first edition I DON`T by the hardcover rulebook. I`ll just wiat to eBay the little rulebook from the box set. The rumors seem to indicate it will be incorporating a lot of WFB 8th edition rules, so we`ll see how it changes the game.
