A new edition is coming... New 40K discussion thread!
Re: A new edition is coming... New 40K discussion thread!
so Rob came over and we played 8th edition till 5 a.m. We have just finished our first game, and just for the record, it was ALOT of fun. The removal of idiotic rules like being only able to charge at the unit you shot at, and being able to walk out of combat in the movement phase make the game, so much more intuative and in my opinion far superior to previous iterations. Rediscovering what all your stuff does now is also very interesting with the data sheets. I'd say, hang on to your armies and give it a try. This one is a winner.

good to see rob's still gaming from time to time
Also good to hear positive things about 8th ed (actually, I havent seen any negative). I'm looking forward to getting my stuff in a few weeks and hopefully a game soon after I get back.
Out of interest, did any intersting/odd rules stuff come up that's worth mentioning?

As the dice got rolling, and the debate over whether Russia had anythng to do with Trump got heated, night became day as we managed to mozy our way through our very first romper stomp of 8th. It was only a baby game, mind, with just the stuff from the dark imperium starter set so we didn't engage with those juicy strtegems, and matched played antics.
There were a few noticable observations that fall within the range of interesting and odd. hmmm I found that you really have to approach the system from a beginner stand point, because we are so used to doing things like it was 6th/7th ed. LIke wound allocation for instance.
-Damage and would allocation. After rereading the rules, I realised we'd done goofed it up in our game. Namely weapons that do more than one damage. (i.e powerfist - Strength user x 2 and Damage D3)
how we did it (not how it's done!)
Roll to hit, then roll to wound - roll for damage - apply damage as wounds. Then opponent has to make a bunch of saves.
How it is supposed to work
Roll to hit, then roll to wound - Then opponent makes amour saves!!!! THEN roll for damage and subtract from wound total. Potentially mitigating alot of damage. Lord of contagion can still make hamburgers out of marines though... primaris or otherwise.

Perhaps the most important question is: Did Badruck get his WAAAAGH!!! back?

Hmm I think there may have been a spark of waaagh! about his person. He said he thought the game was a lot of fun, and definitely wants to play more. Is this a return to form for dear old admiral, I cannae say!

What say you all regarding the new nurgle tank?

There's been chat on facebook. General consensus: bit bland, but verdict holding for better pics.
incidentally, jus, is that hint of Scottish brogue I detect there?

It bugs me to no end that the sponsons and the three-barrelled hull weapon thing have no traverse to speak of. Aside from that, it's pretty much a 40K tank, heh. Not sure about white (even though, yeah, it's the legion's color scheme) but the model itself looks fine.me_in_japan wrote:What say you all regarding the new nurgle tank?
Also, Reiver rule sneak peek. Stats and weaponry are nothing special (the Primaris standard 3+ save, 2 wounds, 2 attacks - 3 with the combat knife) - but they have grenades that prevent a unit from firing on overwatch and a leadership-penalty bubble. Could be interesting! Apparently in the real world they'll be in units of 5-10 as well, which would work a lot better for an assault unit than the 3 in the easy-build box. (Which is confirmed 10 GBP / 2300 yen. The former price I like, the second not so much.)
Feel free to call me Dave!
