I'll admit, even as a mostly-40k-player (historically speaking) my interest is piqued by this. What could it mean....

current (2019) hobby interests
eh, y'know. Stuff, and things
Wow. And then Corona happened. Just....crickets, all the way through to 2023...

Given that they said its the equivalent of the Horus Heresy for AoS, I'm hoping its a more meaty rules system that has elements from Fantasy Battles like flanking and movement trays without too much rules bloat. But given that GW likes to overhype its better not to get too excited. Although they explicitly referenced square bases so I guess we'll see in 1.5 hours or so.

They're calling it Warhammer The Old World. Apparently its not coming out anytime soon, at least two or more according to their article. Its strange to see GW announce something this early but that's something that's in the pipeline I suppose.

And I still fall for it anyway.

Re: Let's have a GW rumors and sneak peeks thread!
"In two or three years, Forge World will support WHFB stuff" doesn't exactly fill my with the hype feels. Partly because how FW supports HH sporadically and somewhat randomly, partly because getting a 40-strong unit of empire halberdiers on square bases in resin from FW will be stupid expensive, but mostly because with the way bases work it's more or less explicitly an "either-or" proposition if I want to, say, use night goblins / moonclan in one or the other system. Seems like a potential "splitting the fanbase" proposition.

Aye, I loved the Old World. But I'm skeptical about what GW has planned or will plan. They say we are " misty-eyed at the memory of long-lost heroes and glorious kingdoms laid to ruin" - I'm more red eyed and livid.
Re: Let's have a GW rumors and sneak peeks thread!
Well, the announcement does say that it's the Warhammer Studio, not Forge World, so there is that. (Note that FW supported HH fairly well right up until the main studio dumped all of the specialist games on them and their manager passed away). The Other Dave wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2019 11:03 pm"In two or three years, Forge World will support WHFB stuff" doesn't exactly fill my with the hype feels. At this stage, and with no info to go on except "We have an idea to bring something related to the old world back in about 3 years," I'm not particularly fussed one way or the other. If people want to get all excited about what they imagine the studio is doing, they'll probably only be more disappointed if it turns out that they were doing something slightly different. Who knows, this could be WFB in 6mm for mass battles, just for ToD.

Some people on the facebooks were (I think) unironically going "well, Epic used square bases, hmmm?" and even I had to chuckle at that one.

Re: Let's have a GW rumors and sneak peeks thread!
The thing about WFB was that it wasn't really a mass battle game. It was a skirmish game with overly strict movement rules. Each model attacked individually and was removed individually. An army consisted of about 100 guys (outside of Skaven or Goblins) and the abilities of a single model in combat could change the outcome of a game entirely.
Warmaster was a better attempt at a mass battle game IMHO. Warriors win fights, but it is the general getting his men into the right place at the right time that wins the battle. Honestly, I'd rather see a remake of that than WFB if they are aiming for a large scale game and not just AoS on square bases. I'm probably very much in the minority there though.

I'm with you there...(having been recently painting some warmaster empire for the sake of it...)Primarch wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2019 3:33 pmThe thing about WFB was that it wasn't really a mass battle game. Although they'd go and change the scale if they released it to something like 13mm...
So many games, so little time....
