New Flyer Pics
Re: New Flyer Pics
Points wise, the Marine flyer clocks in at 130 for the basic version and can upgrade its guns for about 20 points more. (Sorry, still no idea on which codexes get it).
The ork fighters are between 110 - 135 depending on the version you build.
The Cron flyers are in the codex at 100 and 175 depending on if it is a transport or a fighter.
Looks like all of them will be useable in smaller games.

Re: New Flyer Pics
I don`t understand why the SM flier gets all of the hate (on this and other forums). Despite everyone and their brother owning a marine army, people constantly seemed "surprised" by their vehicle designs. SM vehicles are brick-shaped. Rhino - brick with a periscope. Land Raider - bigger brick with a spoiler on the back. Predator - brick with a turret. Thunderhawk - long brick with (small) wings. Storm Raven - short brick with wings. This new flier looks like a brick with and underslung set of assault cannons. That seems perfectly marine-ish to me. People who are expecting sleek, smooth, aerodynamic designs should choose another faction. Marines like bricky vehicles because they themselves are like bricks (3+ AS!!!!!).

Well it looks like the armour is 11 all around for the flyers, with the orc flyer 10. What do you guys think?

I'm starting to appreciate the compactness of the Stormtalon. Too bad Space Wolves can't use them.

I don't understand the hate on the storm talon either, I think it looks appropriately fitting every which way....not that intend on buying one any time soon, if ever. I havn't read up on them, but black Templars probably don't get them either.
Re: New Flyer Pics
Personally, I like marines and I think that their tanks look good. However, you dont employ tank designers to build aircraft for you. The US army doesn't just strap rockets to the side of it's tanks and call it a day. Just because there is a design aesthetic for the army doesn't mean that it should be applied strictly to every single thing.
IF the talon had longer wings and wasn't stupidly front heavy, (the exact same design problem with the Storm Raven IMHO), it would look a darn sight better. As it is, it looks like it will simply spin like crazy before plowing into the ground face first as soon as the engines are fired.
Honestly, a Rhino with wings would be more aerodynamic.

Re: New Flyer Pics
It`s true that we have completely separate institutions designing our tanks and aircraft (actually, a lot more when you take in to account contractors and such). But Space Marine vehicles all come from the same source (consider that the same man, Land, designed the Land Raider and Land Speeder which are two seemingly unrelated vehicles in purpose) and are maintained by the same people (Techmarines). So, it is to be expected that their tanks, bikes, and even aircraft look bricky. Personally, I kind of like that they have the same asthetic.
I guess we just have to assume there is some sort of "futuristic technology" that keeps the stubby-winged Thunderhawk/Storm Raven/Storm Talon up in the air. We can marvel at this advanced technology...that also produced a rifle that malfunctions one out of every six times it is fired and evaporates the user (plasma gun) and yet is still issued to the elite Space Marines.

Re: New Flyer Pics
By the letter of the rules, the Stormraven is Blood Angels and Grey Knights only, the Stormtalon is normal Space Marines only (the rules are noted as being an addition to Codex: Space Marines) and the Storm Eagle from Forge World can be used in Space Marines, Dark Angels, Black Templars or Space Wolves army. On a practical level, I wouldn't have a problem letting any of them be used by any flavour of Imperial or Chaos Space Marines.Tenorikuma wrote:Noob question here, but are the various Space Marine vehicles usable by Space Wolves too, or just Codex Marines?
The Stormtalon is growing on me the more I look at it. I think the White Scars example looks better than the Ultramarines one, though.

That's just because they're not as metal as Marines.Primarch wrote:Personally, I like marines and I think that their tanks look good. However, you dont employ tank designers to build aircraft for you. The US army doesn't just strap rockets to the side of it's tanks and call it a day.
But then, I have a soft spot for these guys of all things:

Those Thunderhawks are truly epic. I love them! They are perfect for playing in Japan, since you can actually call them "cute"!
