Huh. GW is pegging its currency to the dollar. Someone could probably write an interesting economics paper about that.

Odd. Still showing up in yen/pounds when I look at the japanese/uk sites.

Is anybody else following developments on the new edition? Cos they're looking...OK, actually. Maybe better'n ok. Maintaining cautiously optimistic stance...

I read that the new rules will be 12 odd pages downloadable as free PDF, as wil relevant army info (Warscrolls, let's face it). This is obviously quite good, isn't it? Eager to see what they've cooked up.

I've actually not only been following, but am generally liking what I'm seeing. ('Course, they haven't shown much in the way of statlines or special-case rules yet, which is the killer.) IF the game will be fun and playable at the kind of low points values I can stand painting, I might give it a serious look.

Indeed...

A leak of the soon-to-be-previewed example statblock, rubric marines:

Image

The big thing is that points are WAY streamlined ("power" is basically points cost, so the base squad of 5 including a sorcerer is 8 points, a squad of 10 including a heavy weapon is 14, and so on), which I love, but then I've sort of been falling out of love with points in general as I get deeper into historicals, heh.

Edit to add: apparently they're planning two point systems? The less-granular one shown here, and another in a General's Handbook type thing with more-granular systems for people who like knowing that a bolt pistol is exactly 1 point?

That's what I read. Somewhere the official site does specifically say that the above simpler set is what they expect most folks to use, but for tourney type folks/detail lovers there will also be regular-type points costs for everything.

I'm liking pretty much everything I'm seeing so far. Particularly the way characters now don't join units but have a bubble of effect around them, coupled with their ability to jump into nearby combats, makes them seem more character-y.

It's certainly what I'd gravitate towards. Like, when I was reading the Dropfleet rulebook, I noticed that on a certain level it has come to mystify me that, say, a Djinn light frigate is 43 points and a Harpy is 42, so obviously the Djinn is 2.38% more effective than a Harpy, yeah?
