Re: Are IG the 7th Edition Daemons of 40K?
This does sound like it is more with the players. If you are bringing a leaf blower to a pick up game, then you're head is in the wrong place. Pick ups are casual fun, not tournament WAAC. I've been looking at different ways to play my guard army. I'll never touch the full mechanized (just not my style) and I like to challenge myself tactically and try out new units, so no one can really say that I have too over powered of an army.
Maybe next time they start pulling out the leafblower list, just wait till they have it all out, put out your hand to shake and say 'congrats, you've won' and walk away looking for another opponent without having pulled out your army. Maybe they might get the hint after a few times.

I'm aware that this'll have people rubbing their eyes in disbelief but...
I agree with Voss completely.

Actually, if you DIDN'T agree about this one I'd be suprised. Rolling out the best army build in the game for a friendly pick up game does seem pretty unsporting. If its a tournament, then fair enough. The Ardboyz results show that the mech-guard is still going strong.

Well, that`s just it - y`know it`s hard to ask people not to cheez-WAAC it when they like winning with the all-Mech IG. Meanwhile, battles around here have turned into mainly IG vs. IG with the occaisional Space Marine player agreeing to a beating (a.k.a. "game").
I was thinking that perhaps the transport rules are too forgiving in this edition of the game. Or, perhaps allowing IG Vets to take more special weapons than the Emperor`s first (Space Marines) was not such a good idea...perhaps other agree.
Until something changes the meta in my area, I`ll be playing Warmahordes.

Re: Are IG the 7th Edition Daemons of 40K?
Veterans have always been able to take 3 special weapons, but I think the biggest change was making them troops instead of elite. Before people HAD to spend points on infantry companies which ate up a lot of points to 'mech-up,' resulting in fewer melta spam veteran units. By making them troops and allowing chimeras to have 5 fire points (WTF???? They clearly have 6 lasguns), it has seriously changed which units players take.
....heck, why do I still bother with infantry platoons on foot. I'm off to buy me some more chimeras.
Just kidding.
Or am I?

Some thoughts, take them with a huge grain of salt.
If things have gone so far as you say they have, then ask around or put up an ad asking for people who want to play regular games of 40k without the leafblower, mech heavy lists. Basically separate the people who want to play fun warhammer from the WAAC players. Maybe if they get turned down by enough games for a match and see others having fun, they'll change their ways. Sounds harsh, but I put my money and time into my army and I want to have fun with it just as much as the next guy and I'm not going to let a few egomaniacs ruin a hobby I enjoy so much. This way, they can enjoy what they enjoy and I can enjoy what I enjoy.
If you do agree to play a game with one of your normal armies, make sure to include an agreement that after they have wiped the floor with your, that you get to switch armies and wipe the floor with them. See if they enjoy being on the receiving side of such a beating. That may help them to realize that it is no fun for you and maybe tone down their lists when playing against other players. Of course they could decline, in which case you could really stick it too them and comment that they can dish it out but they can't take it and how cowardly that is. And if they back out of playing the second game, then they're double cowardly and dishonest to boot.
Change the terrain around. Build a jungle with tons of trees, swamps and bogs that gum up the tanks and other horrors with only a few narrow roads that tanks can safely traverse or a massive city with narrow roads and plenty of kill zones that will eat tanks alive. If there is only room for 6 tanks to deploy and their maneuverability is severely limited even afterwards, then they'll have no choice but to change their tactics or fight at a severe disadvantage. It also makes a lot of sense a lot of armies have gone into restricted terrain when the heavy armor rolls out just to make it more level.

Re: Are IG the 7th Edition Daemons of 40K?
again, I agree with Voss. twice in one topic. blimey.
I dont intend any offence (I really dont), but are the 40k gamers in your area all twats? Surely they must realise it's no fun for the non-IG players? Let's face it: WH40k is a game. We play for fun, not as a test of manhood, breeding rights, territory or whatever. If both players dont enjoy a game, then someone (or both of em) is playing the game wrong. This is the fundamental point of the 40k experience.
So, as Voss says - if things have gone so far as to have soured you to the game, tell people. They need to know. Frankly, it'd be bad enough to have to play the same army over and over again (i get bored of playing SM variants), but to have to play em repeatedly and lose every time, too, would be boring beyond belief.
We don't spend our time and money to be bored. Working on the assumption that all the 40k gamers in your area are not twats, I think you should let them know how you feel. More than likely they'll say "oh" and change their army up. If not, then you can take the moral high ground, call em a bunch o twats and tell em they smell of gorgonzola
dat's my tuppence worth, anyway.
ps - there is also option number 4 (in addition to the three listed by Voss): Come up to Nagoya and enjoy a fun game with the cool crowd!

Totally off topic, but the geek in me just can't help it....
"Some thoughts, take them with a huge grain of salt."
The idiomatic expression "to take with a grain of salt" means, as most of us know, that we shouldn't necessarily place much value on the information being offered thereafter.
This is not because salt is worthless, in fact quite the opposite. Salt has historically been a very valuable commodity, so much so that the word 'salary' is said to have derived from the Roman practice of paying it's soldiers with salt. Gandhi even brought the British Empire to its knees by rebelling against the tax on salt. So, to take something with a huge grain of salt, a whole bag of salt etc etc would mean to value the following information very highly.
For example, "I'd take any advice the Madmiral gave me with a sackful of salt" would actually mean that you value our favourite old sea dog's opinions very highly. A more correct usage would be, "Thanks for the advice about how to build a 'friendly' list Madmiral. I'll take it with the most miniscule amount of salt possible, perhaps as little as a single molecule of sodium chloride"
P.S. This is not MtP having a shot at Voss, more a lonely old geek venting his spleen.

Re: Are IG the 7th Edition Daemons of 40K?
Back on topic, I pretty much agree with what the others have said on the topic.
If it is really bugging you so much that you don't want to play 40K anymore then say so. Next time someone asks for a game, ask them what they have brought. If they reply that they have a leaf-blower list or similar, then politely refuse and tell them, just as politely, why. Sometimes it's nice to be the brutally frank gaijin and I think this might qualify as one of those times. Or you could do as the Colonel said and ask your opponent to take a turn playing with your army and see how they like it.
