Thank you all for voting!
It seems like most players lean towards 3 armies.

it took me a long time to get there, though. i was a one-army man (as opposed to a one-man army, ahahaha) for about 15 years or so.

I find it is nice to own most every army just because for me one army is only fun for a few weeks at best.. I am hoping to get better at painting and modeling.. a little bit at a time...

and it shows mate but really... how much work does one really have to do on a model to make it look good enough for the table... I may not be the best painter Japan but I am not the worst either.. striving to be better should not come at the expense of no painted models..

depends on what youre striving for. If youre striving to be a better painter, then yes, it can come at the expense of fewer models on the table. If youre striving to have a fully painted wargaming army, then no, it shouldnt.

true but I think even some of the really good painters get armies painted in a timely manner...

It's a universal rule. It will take a long time to learn a technique but then, as time goes by, you will be able to use that technique at a faster pace.

In my case it is about balance. i want a good looking army but I don't want to wait for alzheimer's to kick in before I get to use it. I understand spending ages over an HQ or a special unit like Chaos Chosen (who should all look unique) or Harlies (who should be super gaudy) but aside from those select few, you shouldn't agonise too much over the others.

Oh and M_I_J, you do paint at the most ridiculously slow pace 8-)

I am very happy to say that most of my armies are painted... do a fairly good standard...but they could all use a bit more paint...

guilty, but it does depend on what Im painting -

Primarch's Primarch = 5 months.

3000pts of nurgle = 6 months

3 Bile thralls and 2 Scrap thralls = a week (last week, in fact, with 3 and 2 more respectively on the way.)
