"Ask Me Anything" thread on Reddit by someone with 40K rules

I'm thinking about taking a cheap Space Marine or Imperial Guard HQ/Troop combo so I can field a Valkyrie or Storm Talon with my Wolves. I couldn't really care less about power gaming.

And why would you? As I said, nobody plays like that around here anyway.
Personally I am thinking about an Inquisitor for my IG and some Dark Eldar for my Necrons. Lots of interesting combos without going overboard.

I actually think it will make the game quite fun and allow people to play some quite fluffy options for their armies.

Dark eldar can ally with necrons??? Whaaaa? I thought they were like, ancient enemies from the dawn o time. I mean, seriously - can you imagine the scene?

Personally, I'm quite looking forward to having dark eldar allies for my craftworlders. In fact, since the current bee in my bonnet is Corsairs, I'd been thinking along those lines anyway. The allies rules just remove the potential hurdle of "waahwaaahwaaah, those forge world rules are like, totally broken!"

As long as we all list-build like gentlemen, all will be well, I reckon.

Drat and bother, M_i_J is right. I was looking at Dark ANGELS who can ally with Necrons. No worries as I have some of those too.

It will be nice (or Evil) to see Daemons back on the table with CSM. I'm not talking about Fateweaver etc but some Daemonettes with my purple Perverts, Yes please. I just wonder what the new 'Chariot' vehicle class will mean to my flying Chariots.

As for the two types of Eldar teaming up, sure it's kinda OK fluff wise etc but I don't think I'll put 'em together. Why dilute your force? Ah well, we'll see.

Wow! I can`t believe how "on-board" everyone is with the allies rules! I guess it`s in with allies and out with the fluff! Anything goes in 6th edition!

@The Madmiral: They have been there since Codex: Chaos Daemons came out. And why not? The realm of Chaos exists beyond time in any sense that we can imagine. 'Technology' is inconsequential to beings of the warp.

@The Big American: I bet next Nagoyahammer you'll be bringing Tau and Blood Angels again. You won't even need a partner.

As for allies appearing all the time, I honestly don't think it'll happen too much. Anyways, I reserve the right to refuse to play someone who is just taking allies to compensate for army 'weaknesses'. If you're doing it for the above reason = If it's fluffy and looks cool = OK.

CSM + Daemons (except Fateweaver) =

You mean the fluff where the Ultramarines had a half Eldar commander and Harlequins rode in Land Raiders?
Or do you mean how the Necrons and Blood Angels teamed up to fight Tyranids?

The fluff should be the only reason to use allies. Heck half the armies in the game belong to the same faction. Tyranids get no allies and I cant think of a good game reason why they wouldnt. Some of the choices seem odd, Marines and Tau for instance, but then I haven't read the new background yet.
