That didn't stop GW from doing Primaris, or from updating most of the Chaos Marine minis either, it probably won't stop them from redoing IG when they feel like it. I think this new sprue is a way for GW to sell more of their existing IG stock as a stopgap until they update the full range.
Sure, but Primaris Marines didn't replace firstborn Marines and Chaos Marines got a change in style and scale without radically changing the original design. Actually, I would love it if Guard got the same treatment as Chaos Marines - giving them better proportions without completely changing how a Cadian guardsmen looks. I just meant that I hope they don't change the 'default' IG to something completely different from Cadians.

I hope you're right about it just being a stopgap until a proper redo - but still, it's most likely not something we'll see soon. Hopefully in 10th edition!

The final big reveal was a new edition of AoS, which maybe is less interesting to folks around here, but the Stormcast do get a fancy new lord who is frankly pretty dang cool:

Straight up restrained design compared to the Lumineth stuff, but I think she's nice and heroic-lookin'.

And a redesign of the Stormcast line troops, giving them a bit more realistic proportions:

...which is also a move I'm in favor of.

They're being cagey about who the opponent will be in the starter box, but what with the state of the lore and "Destruction rampaging across Ghur," it's a safe bet it'll be Destruction of some flavor or another, and "1st edition Chaos, 2nd edition Death, 3rd edition Destruction" would have a nice symmetry.

Hopefully whoever it is makes a fun Warcry team since I'll probably get the box. I've been resisting the siren song of AoS for a while but it seems like a good jumping on spot and with my strategic reserve of Stormcast I shouldn't have much trouble putting together a casual army.

OK, She will make a fine Blood Angels Character and as for the rest - every time I see a Stormcast I want to convert it to CHAOS!

I am hoping for a good starter box with a nice opposing force I can collect.

I’m watching future underworlds developments carefully. If they have a warband with those Sigmarine terminators in, it’d better just be one single guy, to show off how double ‘ard he is. But it won’t be. It’ll be the new primaris sigmarines, and there’ll be three. Because there’s always three.

Design-wise, I don’t mind the squigorks, but they’re not super exciting either. Mega-armor boss is very cool. Proppa orky. Thumbs up for him. Super-mega-angel-sigmarine boss is actually pretty good. I like her. She looks appropriately heroic, isn’t stupid oversized (albeit she ain’t small) and isn’t too overly fiddly-bitted. Thumbs up. The primaris sigmarines do look better than regular ones, fair play. I don’t see why they couldn’t have gone with that from the get go, but sure, ok. Thumbs up. Terminator sigmarines also look pretty good. Chonky without being too slow looking. They got the proportions just right, I’d say. Thumbs up again for these chaps.

Yeah, I'm betting the season 5 starter will follow the Shadespire / Nightvault pattern and have whatever the stuff in the AoS 3 starter is - stormcast and presumably the swamp lurker dudes they've teased. (Not skaven, since they're Chaos and not new anyway - dare we dream for Fimir?)

I'm actually not a fan of the paladin-replacement stormcast (I forgot to include the pic, so here's one):

Round shield is very good - maybe I just can't get over the shoulderpads? TBH there's a 95% chance I'd love it if he had a crest on his helmet.

Yes, I am also wondering about the opponent: Swamps, Fens, and a "new breed of evil emergs" - Swamp Trolls? The return of my Dark Elves would be REALLY nice! Wood/swamp elves?

NOT Vampires, Flesh Eater Courts with updated models?

I'm gonna guess Fimir here as well. In the trailer video the red lights surrounding the camp (about the 0:26+ mark) could well be eyes, and there are a lot of individual red lights. The video states that it is a new breed of evil, but GW tends to just retread the same ground with a slight twist rather than make up a whole new race these days.

The Angel is nice, but the new sigmarines are still just sigmarines.

Man, I hope so. Way back when, when Fimir were first introduced in that White Dwarf article with the Paul Bonner art, they really grabbed me even though I didn't play Fantasy at all at the time.

Muhahaha! Me too! I dig these new Stormcast. Much improved over the originals. The winged hero is especially nice.

And new Orks? WAAAAAAAAGH! Squig Orks are okay, I'd want to go old, old skewl and put them on boars of course.
