If only I didn't already have 4 Contemptors... The Spartan being plastic would be interesting too since people are bound to sell the split up contents of that box on eBay at reasonable prices, if its not a limited run that is.

You can never have too many contemptors...

In addition I hear the beaky marines are primaris size.

Unfortunately GW won't let me field more than 3 and each Contemptor costs a command point for some bizarre reason. The new weapon options are nice though since the old Plastic Contemptor only had a multi-melta and autocannon. It would be nice to see how posable it is too since it does look a tad bit more dynamic than the old one.
The beakies look more Primaris sized than regular tactical marines, I can't imagine beakies without jetpacks though and I would love to have them as Alpha Legion Chaos Raptors.

Play 30K. You can field 12 using the standard Force Organization Chart. :D
I think the new Mk.VI will be more in line with the newer Chaos Marines rather than Primaris. Firstly being Primaris size would stop them from being used alongside every existing 30K army. Secondly what would be the point of Primaris if you're just going to redo regular marines at the bigger size?

Now they get to phase out 30k marines with new 30k marines which makes no sense at all given the fixed setting.

It means you have to buy a whole new army - sounds like GW to me

After years of market analysis and looking at "recent" trends, GW finally discovered Warhammer-as-a-service* with their brand new subscription model.
They've added in some good old GW flavoured FOMO for good measure too with those new exclusive miniatures. which for some magical reason need a full year of subscription so work more like a loyalty reward.
Other things that are included are:
・The new Warhammer animated shows
・New painting tutorials which are essentially getting paywalled
・A new show where they get their staff to read out lore to you instead of some random bloke on Youtube.
・A new show where they get their staff to play battle reports instead of some random blokes on Youtube.
・A subscription to the new 40k and the upcoming new AoS app**
・Access to their out of print booklets and a year's worth of White Dwarf
・Perks at events such as "free" merch***

With all those groundbreaking features, it only comes up to a paltry 4.99 GBP/5.99 USD or 10 months worth for an annual plan which doesn't sound too bad honestly but I'm going to wait until they reveal the Japanese price after taking into account the different in average income and the steep import tariffs for digital content. Also its probably not going to even support Japanese which doesn't matter for me personally but is silly in 2021.
Anyway here's the article about it: https://www.warhammer-community.com/202 ... d-to-know/

*You still need to buy all your models, physical rule books and GW sanctioned accessories.
**I have no idea why they're scrapping the old AoS app and starting from scratch since the old AoS app is still better than the 40k app...
***Very useful to Wargamers who don't live in countries with official GW events.

Feels like it's leaning pretty heavily on the free mini for its value proposition, though being a loyalty reward rather than a signing bonus means it doesn't trigger my stupid instant gratification impulses

A one-stop-shop actually does make sense to me as a product (it's a simpler story for new folks than the maze of community tools and one a GW store manager can put into the sales pitch) and a subscription service does seem like a reasonable way to monetise fans that aren't actively buying models but still identify with the hobby.

But given I already know the community tools and they're pretty good I don't personally have the incentive to switch even if we take money out of the equation by assuming I'm happy to invest in Vindicare futures. If the apps get a lot further from MVP (are they really going to rebuild Azyr?) and I'm playing both 40K and AoS regularly I probably will go for it but for now seems more hassle than it's worth.

Still seems weird the animations are in the walled garden and not on Netflix or even Youtube to grow the flock. Sure you need something to bulk up the value of the subscription but why not more free minis?

I completely agree that unifying all their subscription services into one package is a smart move given how tired people are of managing multiple subscriptions these days. Given the price it doesn't seem too bad for an avid Warhammer player but like you said there are already tons of community alternatives for both the tools and other resources such as painting tutorials and battle reports which their paid versions are inferior to. Since I couldn't care less about the loyalty miniatures (If I did I'd just buy them off of ebay eventually) I might consider subscribing for a month after a good number of their animated shows are out just to binge them. The only other thing that could make me subscribe is if they fix their apps and go full digital with a favorable pricing model for rule books but that's unlikely to happen anytime soon.

Overall I think its a decent move, they just need to work on the quality of the services they are providing.

Yeah, knowing it has the apps in and not just the animation makes it more of a reasonable proposition. If they can just make the 40K app as good as the AoS one it'd help - one would hope this was a sign they're consolidating and making them more in line with one another, but who knows. The GW community podcasts are sometimes interesting, at least when they pull in a Black Library writer or Jed Goodwin or something for a deep dive - the "gush about the latest AoS / 40K release" episodes tend to be less engaging.
