Re: Let's have a GW rumors and sneak peeks thread!
That is some *great* terrain.
Re: Let's have a GW rumors and sneak peeks thread!
It feels like a mix of Warcry terrain and Sector Mechanicus terrain which seems to have worked well. I was worried about the terrain being the limiting factor which would stop me from buying multiple boxes but it seems like it's going to be the miniatures instead. The dynamic poses and specialist would looks better without clones and they also were gracious enough to fit 10 Komandos into the box and not just 5 like I thought they would so I'll probably survive with just 1 box. I'm torn between keeping the DKoK vets or giving them to my IG buddy though (after I paint them).
Re: Let's have a GW rumors and sneak peeks thread!
Luckily for you the models seem hyper-specialized for Kill Team so you don't have to worry about starting a DKoK army with multiple boxes. The dynamic poses vs the older "standing with a sense of despair" has me a little on the fence about how much I like them but the new Orks are great.Mattb wrote: ↑Sat Jul 10, 2021 7:32 amTell me about it. I was looking at spending too much on minis with these new Orks coming out then GW goes and does this to me?
In saying that though, I'm not as excited about DKoK as a lot of other people - 5 to 10 guys is not enough to start an army with and they don't fit the aesthetic of the rest of the Guard range so they end up pretty much being exclusively used for KT. I'm being very selfish, but I would've prefered to get something for the Guard that I can actually use in my existing army. Of coarse this won't stop me from getting it, however.![]()
Also as someone who doesn't play either Kill Team or Warcry, what's the major difference?
I'm a huge fan of the variation of weapons, especially the one that uses "borrowed" Tau tech. Mr. Knifey McKnifeface has a ton of personality too.
The new units look fun too but a little bit too busy for my taste. The battlewagon equivalent for example looks like a nightmare to paint.
They mentioned that one version of it basically has a psychic lance attack so that sounds like great fun for everyone involved. (I'm expecting it to be able to backfire obviously.)
The rest of them are just filling out the Beast Snagga line so I don't have too many opinions about them.
And other than this one guy who I think is supposed to be a Snakebites named character, everyone else should work with regular orks.
The pictures of the new boyz confirms that they've retained most of their weapon options so that a huge relief. I'm going to miss the gorilla butts but I already have plenty of them so I'm not even sure when or if I'll get any of the new boyz. Until they shove them into a fancy irresistible new box set that is.

They also finally found the Deffkoptas and they look like a more detailed version of the ones from Black Reach, which I'm personally really happy about since I can continue using the 6 that I have without them looking out of place.
The terrain piece is a bit meh, as faction specific terrain tends to be.

Just putting this out there.
If anyone buys a box and doesn't want the DKoK, I will happily take them off your hands!

When it rains, it pours! Those are some good orks - the rigs don't do much for me, but everything else is just *chef's kiss*. Both the Kommandos and Kriegsmen have a lot more personality-per-model than I'd expect if they were also going to be the base for a full 40K size army, though.
Fortunately, though, I don't really want to buy any of it, so my wallet is safe.

Oh wow, those kommandos look amazing. I love the burna boy! I also haven't been that big of a fan of the beast snaggas (I play Evil Sunz
), but Mozrog looks great - I'm loving how much more cybernetics the new Orks have. New Deffkoptas also means I need to give them a second thought.
I agree on the big wagon though - it's pretty overdesigned, although I think that's what GW is going for most of the time with the big centrepiece models à la Age of Sigmar. I'm also a little worried about the scale creep on those new boys - in some photos they almost look bigger than Nobz.
The Kriegers look good as well, slightly more bulky and dynamic than their FW counterparts. Assuming the stand alone kit gives you options for a command squad/infantry squad, all you we need to do is create some heavy weapon teams and you actually could make a whole army out of them. It's a shame I already have more than enough Guardsmen at this point - maybe just one platoon.

Oh I see. It'll be interesting to see what they do with it then. I'm pretty nuetral about it though since I haven't really got much of an issue with their usual system. Although I've heard so many good things about the Warcry system from many people, so hopefully KT aligns pretty closely with it. Personally I'm more interested in a really good, in depth campaign system more than anything. The Other Dave wrote: ↑Sat Jul 10, 2021 7:43 amKill Team is basically still 40k 8th edition rules, with some added granularity for skirmishing, but Warcry is a completely different game system than AoS (or in fact anything GW’s done before), with a pretty slick and streamlined resolution system and keyword-coded special abilities. They actually designed a new system for it, ground-up, rather than just kludging the same old WS / BS / S / T, roll to hit, roll to wound, roll to save system the core games have been using since 1985.

Re: Let's have a GW rumors and sneak peeks thread!
Speaking of, someone on Reddit apparently took a squinty look at what we can see of the rulebook:
https://www.reddit.com/r/killteam/comme ... ook_heres/
https://www.reddit.com/r/killteam/comme ... ook_heres/
Which does sound very much like it'll be to some degree War-Cry-ified, but a bit more granular, both of which points make me extremely interested.Reddit guy wrote: Hey all, I watched the Announcement today, but my curiosity got the better of me. I spent the next hour staring at the few peeks we got for the Kill Team 2.0 rulebook, and here's what I got.
First thing, it looks like range is completely standardized by color/shape, with what I assume are templates. It reminds me a bit of Star Wars: Legion that way.
There appear to be different varieties of "Tac Ops," which work like objectives. One of the ones I could make out the clearest was Plant Banner. If you get the model with your banner into the enemy's Drop Zone, you get 2 VP at the end of the game.
The game works on an AP system- things like "Normal Moves" and "Shoot" both cost 1AP.
Line of Sight was mostly a blur, but I did see that Command units get a benefit- regular soldiers are in LoS if visible and not obscured, and Command soldiers are in LoS if visible, not obscured, AND not in cover.
Wounds appear to work similarly to Warcry- I'll get to this later, but it looks like most Krieg soldiers have 7 wounds apiece. If a soldier has less than half their wounds remaining, they're considered Injured and suffer a penalty to movement and shooting/fighting.
CP and using CP for "Tactical Ploys" are still a thing. Couldn't make out any rules in specific, but two of the Ploys are Inspirational Leadership and In Death, Atonement.
Units are built a bit like a more complex Warcry. For the Krieg soldiers, their movement is 3 (either white squares or circles). Their API (I assume how much AP they have) is 2. There's something called GA, which I don't know about. There's DF, which I assume is Toughness since it's 3 for all the Krieg soldiers. There's also Save (5+ for all Kriegers), and Wounds (7 per Krieger)
Weapons appear to have some sort of normal distance, since rifles and boltguns don't have anything indicating range, but pistols do. It looks like weapons have their own Attack characteristic, WS/BS (yes, this means different ranged weapons could have different BS on the same model), and damage (in what appears to be an "x/x" format like Warcry).
As for Attributes of weapons, I see a chainsword is considered Balanced, a powersword is Lethal 5+, and grenades use a blast template using the standardized movement templates.
And finally, as for the model options- I see a generic Trooper veteran, as well as your usual Specialists (Command, Sniper, Demo, etc.) There's also a Confidante Veteran (appears to buff Command), Bruiser Veteran (Combat?), Hardened Veteran (some kind of buffs), and Spotter Veteran.
Anyway, I'm gonna go rest my eyes. Hope ya'll enjoy this!

Having spent more time going over the pictures.
I'm definitely a fan of the DKoK minis. Their historically inspired (Franco-Prussian/WWI German) uniforms have always looked cool. Them being plastic is the icing on the cake. It would appear that they are also a full kit rather than monopose.
The Ork Kommandos are really well done. From the burna-boy'z burn scars to the swiss army knife on the guy with the knitted cap, there is a lot of cool detail on them. They look monopose, but I wonder if there are options to convert them.
The squig-hopper guys are not really my thing. (Though the cybernetic arm on the named character would be great used elsewhere).
The new boyz are cool though. It looks like once again the heavy weapon option is designed with a specific body in mind. Hopefully they are all fairly modular though and you won't end up with a Waaaagh full of clones. The Deffkoptas are aces. The rocket powered blades on the centre model are awesome.
GW has really done a nice job on this new set of minis.

I came to see the Krieg minis but stayed for the Orks.
Weather you play Kill team or not that box is great. I am not an Ork guy but that box and the white squig (and others) are spot on. Can you use the riding squigs in Kill Team? I hope so.

It looks like KT is a whole new game, not just 40K with bits chopped off or bolted on. The most interesting point is that it looks like it has fully alternating activations, definitely a plus in my book.
