There's a few wonky edge cases that'll make the more simulation-minded among us wince (like, if you can only see one guy in a target unit you can still freely distribute wounds to the whole unit) but it all seems to be in the service of making the game go faster with less need for on-the-fly rules adjudications (a la Infinity's very binary approach to cover).

I agree, all in all I like what I see. We'll see what codex creep brings to the game - in particular, we've been promised codex-specific force org charts with codex-specific stratagems for filling them out, which seems to be a rules space very open for screwing things up - but as it stands, all signs point to games with the indexes being good fun with very little need to look at a rulebook during play.

Vehicles.....
Looking at a Land Raider:
Power 19
16 Wounds
2+ Save
Damage: as it takes damage it's moving and shooting are reduced. At 9-16 it can attack 6 times, allowing it to shoot both its twin Lascabnons and its twin Heavy abolter and move ten inches. When it drops below 9 Wounds it only gets D6 attacks.

Oh teak. All units can split fire. Declare what each weapon or group of shooters is firing, then resolve each in turn. Sounds good to me.

I'm liking the look of it. Looking forward to giving it a go.

Ummm...err... AFAIK there are no more templates! From what I can see, Bolt Action and 49K seemed to have traded philosophies. For example, a Vindicator's Demolisher Cannon is now Rg:24", Type: Heavy D3 or D6 against target units with more than 5 models, Str:10 AP: -3, Dam: D6

The Heldrake's baleflamer is similar but hits are automatic.

Interesting.

Invulnerable saves are still there. As it was before. Choose your best save. One shot only. Then goodbye

Has anyone else had a read through except the guy that just gave up on the game?

This other guy who gave up on the game has also given the rules a read, but I generally have a harder time "getting" rules by reading them than by fumbling through a game or two with them.

(There's also the fact that I haven't played 40K in a couple editions, so it still just sort of looks like 40K to me. :D )

I got the box, the minis and the rules. Yes, I never really liked the templates, I kinda like what they did with the random damage for big guns like the vindicator.

haven't read them yet, as I know I'll be unlikely to play until August. I've been seeing a lot about it on the net, though, and everything I've seen so far is encouraging. No templates, no special rules for vehicles (ie they have T and W now) - it all seems fine to me.
