I need to know if the 40k community is going to survive this recent panic. I really want to invest in a new 40k army, partly because of my enjoyment of the game, but moreover to be able to play games with you all, as it seems to be the game with the chillest and biggest crowd. (Not to say you are 'not chill' if you avoid 40k.)
So, I really want to have a community of players just like before after this whole thing blows over. I'd prefer to play by the rules GW publishes. I'm not a big fan or fan produced stuff because it is do debatable, which can lead to hurt feelings or spoiled fun (in my opinion).

I think a lot of people are having a knee-jerk reaction to the rapid fire succession of bad moves on GW's part. All in all, I think people will be buying less models than they currently do. Some people may quit buying stuff altogether, which is fair enough I reckon. Most folks have a solid core to their armies that wont change much in the future, so they can still play the games as they are. I know my first reaction to all the news was to throw a hissy fit, but in the long run I love 40k, I love the new plastics they're pumping out and seriously, what else am I going to do? Play a sport outdoors? No thanks.

If you do want to buy a new army bear in mind that the price hikes AND the shipping embargo both start in June. Get stuff whilst you can (maelstroms offer is very good, check out the thread in the introductions page).

In the short term, folks may be a bit bitter, but people will calm down eventually. In the meantime, I have a plan.

I still have my blood angels, and am free for play, but will not be adding to that much, if at all. The only other 40k I'm willing to ever invest in is black templars when ever those monkeys decide to update them. Like Seb said in another thread, 40k is still the game with the best fiction and probably always will be.

Actually, Prim, its the plan that has got me worried. It sounds like an alternative to 40k... I wish you would just get on with it.
Otherwise, I think I'll hang in there and hopefully 40k recovers.

Job, I don't think you need to worry about the community.

For me I will still play and buy 40k, doesn't matter what GW will do to the game. Among all the games I have ever played, doesn't matter what platform it is PC or board game or miniature game, nothing stands a chance towards the massive universe of fiction that 40k is. Gotta love it. Can't wait until they start to make more movies about it, I want to see something in style with the first starship troopers movie but in the 40k universe. That would be awesome.

The warmahordes reaction I had was just a some kinda of defensive mechanism that went on I guess, just needed to calm down.

I just put together my first Renegade Wolf Guard.

I have 3 full size 40k armies, and just spent about 100quid yesterday on finishing up my dark eldar. Im not about to stop playing. Like yourself, I love the background, and nothing else compares. I also love painting, and I have enough minis to do that for years to come. So, in short, I may not be buying any more from GW, but I will certainly be playing as much as i was before, no problems there.

I'm not going anywhere either. The price increases have put things outside of my purchasing range but I still can get stuff through my outriding. It just means I have to be more choosy about which armies get built and they will grow that much slower.

I am not that POed at GW so fully intend to keep playing 40K and WFB. I will however have to rein in my spending a bit however now that the 'Golden Age' is at it's end.

Not so much an alternative as much as something to do in the cooling off period.
And as soon as everything arrives I'll be sure to let people in on it.
