New FAQs

Post by Primarch » Tue Jul 12, 2011 1:26 am

GW have updated the FAQs for:
Main Rulebook
Codex Orks
Codex Space Marines
Codex Grey Knights
Cities of Death

No big changes that I could see, but I wish they wouldn't remove old FAQ info from their updates. E.g. the rule that clarified Shrike being able to infiltrate with his chosen squad.

Hmm, is that a new one, I'm sure I'd seen that before? Must have been the INAT.
Yeah, orks did fairly well out of the FAQ, they clarified quite a lot of points which previously weren't 'officially' clear.

I'm glad they finally clarified the "do Kustum Force Fields give vehicles a 4+ or 5+ save." The amount of time and energy spent debating that was insane. Believe it or not, I was coming around to the 5+ camp, though I am perfectly happy to lose this one! And will be perfectly happy to to get a battlewagon or two started. (Maybe once the next edition comes out.....)
The Tankbustas got screwed. Not only does the "Glory Hogs" rule make them extremely difficult to use, by closing the "Ah, I'll just make a run move if I'm out of range." loophole, they become extraordinarily difficult to use.
Though I'd love to have a unit and use them against 'Nidzilla.....Boom!
...and now his Head was full of nothing but Inchantments, Quarrels, Battles, Challenges, Wounds, Complaints, Amours, and abundance of Stuff and Impossibilities.....

New FAQs for nearly all the codicies and rule books are up on the GW homepage.
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/conte ... ue&start=2

CSM
I cant remember if this is how we play it, but it looks like only Chaos Termies or Oblits dont scatter when using an Icon. Daemon units must deploy within 6" but then roll scatter dice.
Lash of Submission needs a to hit roll and counts as shooting.
Warptime requires you to reroll ALL dice, not just fails.

DE
Wyches dont get a dodge save if they kill a vehicle in close combat and it explodes.

Eldar
Eldritch Storm needs a to hit roll (using the rules for blasts and scatter)
Star Engines cannot be used to ram/tank shock

IG
Platoons count as one unit for deployment/reserve purposes. Units from a platoon on a non-dedicated transport (ie a valkyrie) roll for reserve separately. - This means IG can deploy 300 infantry in dawn of war. Enjoy!

Tyranids
Lash Whips reduce your Initiative to 1 before you count your own wargear (banshee masks are still I10, GK halberds are I3, Furious Charge is I2)

Necrons
BWAHAHAHAHAA!! Ahem...Sorry. Basically they clarified Entropic Strike to say that it takes effect before penetration rolls, stopped people from doing scarab conga lines with Tomb Spyders and clarified Writhing Worldscape to cover 'counts as difficult terrain.' They sorted out ICs joining deathmarks and their affect when targeting ICs, making them pretty useful.

Marines of all flavours
2 Combat Squads now count as 1 deployment

The most recent changes are all marked in Red in the PDFs except for the Necrons which are new and all in black.

Are you sure about your reading of the question on the scatter? It doesn't mention lesser demons anywhere and it seems to be just refering to the composition of a unit composed of "terminators or oblitertors". In other words, what if you put a Lord with a jump pack and dropped him into the game with the deep striking terminators? I think this is what they are addressing. (Of course I would like to re-read the parts about the lesser demons and icons now.

And wow! I've been playing Warptime wrong for years, then. I've never heard of this reading. Oh well, that just makes one of the more effective Chaos Space Marine physic powers really mediocre.

Man this makes want to wait all the more for the new book. I guess that's partly GWs hope anyway. :?

Q: Must a unit that is arriving by Deep Strike within 6"
of a chaos icon, be entirely comprised of Obliterators
or models in terminator armour to stop them from
scattering? (p81)
A: Yes.
So if the unit is NOT comprised entirely of Oblits or Termies (and since daemons and lords with jump packs are neither), then they scatter.
Reading the Codex entry again, it says Oblits and Termies dont scatter. Then it goes on to talk about daemons using the Icons. I think most of us have misplayed that one.

Oh, well. Whatever the rules say... but it seems inconsistent and difficult to play. I wish for the sake of streamlining the rules they would just make all units do the same thing, rather then make series of detailed allowances.
