40k 6th ed - my speculation

Post by me_in_japan » Fri Dec 23, 2011 2:37 pm

just a thought, but I finally got hold of a copy of IAA:2nd ed (the newest IAA book) and in the entry for the Eldar Guardian Serpent Rider Host (an apoc formation) it says, amongst other things:

"The entire formation benefits from Night Vision/Acute Senses special rule, and may re-roll any failed target priority tests"

correct me if I'm wrong, but there are no target priority tests in 5th ed, are there? And since this is a new formation, written for this book, one can only speculate that theyre future proofing it...

Or have they just cut and pasted this formation from somewhere I havent seen it? I dont recognise it, but then it is a huge formation of guardians, so I could easily have missed it.

It could be a cut and paste error on the rule itself.
Or it could, as you say, be a hint of things to come.

It has a special rear firing B.U.T.T. gun that does STR 10 AP 1 that it can use on it's flybys (brownie points for the one who figures out the game this is from)
It's easy to die in the swamp. What's hard is to staying dead.

I said "and it can do flyby's that kill landraiders." The guns have nothing to do with it. It flies through the land raider, it doesnt shoot it. It's like the reaver jetbikes or the chain-snares on other dark eldar vehicles.

*edit* sorry, it's heavy 6 on the plasma guns. my mistake

The flyby is : move flat out over an enemy unit and inflict either D6 S7 AP2 hits on infantry or a single S7 auto-hit on a vehicle, rolling an extra D6 for armour pen. (so, S7 + 2D6 = on average will cause a glancing hit on a landy, or with a smidgeon of luck a penetrating hit.)
