6th Edition imminent?

Post by Mike the Pike » Tue May 29, 2012 12:34 pm

The rumor/rumour mills around the interwebs are going into overdrive. It seems GW have pulled the 40K 5th ed. rulebook from their webstore in preparation for the new edition(?)

Most recent whispers pointed to a summer release but so soon?

End of June/Start of July.
The current WD has the flyers in it and I cant see them dropping a new edition without a WD to cover it. As the next WD comes out at the end of June, we wont see 6th until then.

The above comment is wisdom.

Sadly, I honestly can't bring myself to care that 6th ed is coming out. The past 2 editions I've bought the collectors edition rulebook, and pretty much gotten a new army, too. This time? Honestly, if it wasn't for the fact that I'll have to play 6th ed if I want to play 40k at all, I wouldn't even be downloading it.

I saw this post on CMoN today, and I just thought it summed up my feelings on 40k:
In reference to the wildly escalating cost of GW minis, a wiser man than I wrote:The passion for a thing fades when it's no longer viable to day dream about cool new armies and proceeding to pick up mountains of new boxes and blisters. You're left with what you have today and that becomes stale. So you switch to another game with a valid value proposition, new material being produced and expanding ranges of models. Yay for exciting things!

I do not like the idea of new rules to learn and new books to buy but I like the idea that some units that I already and some armies that I own will be fun again.

I guess the best thing about th new rules is some people who hate 5th ed will come back to the hobby.

Yknow, I don't know of anybody who has quit 40k because they hated 5th ed. I know loads of people that have quit because it was too fecking expensive, tho.

It is all about self control and choosing who you play against.

You dont havre to buy the shiny shiny stuff that WD pimps at you if you dont want it. And if you need it to be competitive, just play with less competitive people.

Not getting into the hobby because it is expensive in understandable. Getting out of it when you already have an army and blaming expense is a bit silly though.

The price is should really not be a point of concern for folks with armies... If you have an army then you can get a few little bits here and there. If you do not have all the bits. You can still play. One of the reasons I keep my armies and only sell them to people that play in our group is I want the game to grow. Some times I get burned other times people enjoy the game and by. Few more models... One can also do like Speve and buy up the stuff that no one wants on the net. Speve plays with lots of hand made stuff that looks great. Honestly I play the game to relax and halve a laugh. To be honest I pay more in travel and eating out after games than I do on the game it's self.

Slightly incoherent yet wise words.

I'll probably buy the mini rulebook off ebay and bumble on as normal. With 3 rule changes for fantasy since 2004 and 3 different orc army books I'm used to this kind of nonsense by now. It might be fun to start afresh with rules. Will they put overwatch back in I wonder.
