A question about proxying,

Post by Spevna » Fri Jun 08, 2012 12:49 pm

I want to have a squad of human mercenaries in my ork army. Of course that has not been an actual army list option for many a year so I have a question for the forum.

The minuatures I have in mind are humanoid size/shaped blokes in all enclosed armour. Not as bulky as power armor, perhaps closer to what the Kasrkin wear. They are pretty comparable in size to the RT era orks I've got. Would it be stupid to in them as ork ard boys with shootas?

Any other ideas what would work well instead?

I'm all ears.

Just use them as IG or something, if thats what you want them to be. It's not like you play many games of 40K and the people you tend to play against wont care. :D

You mean use actual Imperial Guard stats?

Indeed I do. If whoever I'm playing doesn't mind.

I agree with Prim - most folks would be happy to let you use IG stats. heck, use kasrkin if you want. If you wanted to be codex-safe then yeah, ard boyz would be fine, but really most folks would rather be up against IG than ardboys, so you should be alright :P

I think either idea is good. If you want to keep it closer to just what appears in the ork codex, I think your opponent and you can imagine they are a bunch of hooligan-like humanoids with their extra armor represented as extra T. Or do as Prim says and take something out of the IG book you think is suitable as long as your opponent feels comfortable. Certainly I see nothing silly about it and having a platoon of human sell-lasrifles alongside orks. And having some "IG infantry" alongside your Orks doesn't sound like power-gaming or shenanigans to me. If anything, it sounds challenging and fun.

Me thinks out law oomies free booterz would be rather interest'n. You should use the IG penal squad rules.

If use imperial guard stats, it will be the Storm Troopers and not Penal Squads. I don't want a mass of yobbos, I want a small squad if professional mercs who ply their trade across the universe, grizzled vets who have seen, shot, stabbed, and smashed enemies from one edge of space to another.

The Penal squads are only up to ten and they are cool cuz they might be gun fighters knife filters or my favorite psychopaths.
