DE Baron and Counts-as (list help!)

Post by Eigen » Tue May 07, 2013 1:15 am

Howdy! After NagoyaHammer I picked up some fast models from Primarch and am looking forward to making an in-your-face DE army tuned to around 1500 points.

I've been reading through the codex but have a few questions if there's any veteran players who can help me.

I want to field Baron as one HQ choice, he lets the Hellion squads count as troops. But first question is: how does that work with your FOC? Do you put the Hellions IN the troop selection and free up more fast attack slots for something such as reaver squads?

Also, this is just to confirm. Because Baron makes your hellions count as troops, this applies to your whole army, and not just his squad, right?

My list is hoping to be a very fun and huge change from my more shooty/flyer IG list.

I was thinking something involving...

Baron and LARGE squads of Hellions
Multiple ravagers to complement the fast attack
Two reaver squads (heat lances for AV?)

My thoughts are...what would balance this army but keep it very fast? I was toying with the idea of a Lelith model in a venom with incubi just because she's so fun looking (even though not tournament worthy!).

What could veterans recommend?

Note the wording in the codex.
Hellions are troops choices. Not 'count as'.
So in this case, ALL Hellions go into the Troops slot of the FOC, freeing up the Fast Attack slots.

Having never played DE I will let others comment on your army build/tactics, but I will say that you should go with models you like first and foremost. :D

Ditto what prim said. Hellions are troops, and come from the troop section (all hellions, not just his unit.)

Re: rest of army: Lelith is a nice model, and quite fun to play. Try running her with harlequins for giggles

I find, btw (and sad to say) that dark Eldar really, really need pain tokens. For that you need haemunculi. Take 2 or 3 cheap muncs, stick em in a raider or a venom with some troops-of-choice (wych/kabs) and zoom em up ASAP. Pitch a webway portal in turn 1 (this basically buys you an extra 12" on deployment) and run Lelith and the quins out of the portal in turn 2. For extra usefulness, give the munc one of those spray template guns.

That's what I do, anyway, but then I lose quite a lot :D

eh, y'know. Stuff, and things

Wow. And then Corona happened. Just....crickets, all the way through to 2023...

Thanks for the clarification and advice!

This army will NOT be an army that must win, nor expect to win very often. I want this army to be a fluffy pirate army. Maybe even one that trolls my opponent (I really, REALLY like that the hellions can yank independent chars out of squads haha!). I'm looking for fun, hilarious and interesting ways to play them so that I can improve myself as a player by developing crazy arse strategies. :D
