Objectives as narrative hooks

On objectives as narrative hooks.

What are some ideas for characterful objectives? And why is it worth defending? What are the consequences for failing to secure it or for it to fall into enemy hands? Something a little more imaginative than a 5 yen coin might really help to spruce up a game. Please post some of your ideas for specific races,
For example

Objective marker for blood angels:
The remains of Brother sergeant Lucario, who heroically gave his life to save the lives of his squad. His sacrifice was righteous, and he died with a bolter in hand (but hasn't been glued on yet). So stricken by the loss of dearly beloved Lucario are the members of 5th squad that it is imperative that the blood angels strike force retrieve his gene seed and commend his soul to the emperor. The chaplains have issued that, failing to do this, the resentment and hatred within their hearts may well lead many a battle brother to stray ever closer to succumbing to the damnation of the BLACK RAGE.
