Another major point of attraction for me- just discovered that this can be played solo! Obviously a considerable plus for a gamer with kids and fewer options to actually get out and game. Hmm...

Yeah, the enemies seem to run on a simple "randomized AI script" type thing - it looks like the game doesn't need a GM at all, although the how to play video suggests that with 5 players the fifth can take that role.

There are chaos beastmen in the set! And a full squad of traitor guard...The temptation is ridiculous!

If you look closely, you'll see that half of the bad guys are duplicates except for the Chaos Lord. It looks like 2 of the same sprue per box. Nothing a bit of cutting and repositioning can't fix if you want unique minis. A good start off to a renegade IG force either way.

To be honest, I already have 35 traitor human infantry, 19 beastmen, and 6 mutants, so adding any other models would just be expansion.

And, Forgeworld ended its renegade and heretics line. My inclination is that traitor guard of some variety may be the next brand new army. Just my 2-bit speculation.

Probably, but Forge World ending production of their models isn't evidence for that. They stopped production of loads of things that weren't subsequently released in plastic. Elysian Drop Troops for one thing. :)

I would hesitate to read too much about future releases from this - partly because we're looking at a half dozen single-pose models, but mostly because all the baddies are on a single sprue, which means to repackage them for individual release would require retooling, which is something they haven't historically done, or at least not quickly and completely. Compare, say, the Aberrants in Deathwatch Overkill, which have taken a couple years to get a release - of completely resculpted models. I mean, this probably isn't a sign of, say, an Ur-Ghoul army either. :D

Those are probably the weakest models in the set, so it's no great loss.
A renegade guard army (rather than a Cadian army with spikes) has long been missing from GW's lineup. If this set proves popular enough, and I guess it will, it might encourage GW to develop a new range.

I expect there'll be a box set of Chaos Renegades, and a new Chaos Space Marines box at some point, but not of those exact models. Look at the Deathwatch and Genestealer Cult models, or the Kairic Acolytes and Tzaangors; They all first appeared in a boxed game then new miniatures were released separately later.
In regards to rules, though, a Renegade Guard army is "Cadians with spikes", surely? I mean, they're still Guard - the only difference is going to be visual. In rules terms, swap the "IMPERIUM" faction keyword for "CHAOS" and you're good to go. :)

Rules wise, yeah. But I'd like to see more than just a Cadian with a spike stuck to his helmet for the models. :D The Forge World Vraks models looked great, as do the new Blackstone Fortress minis. The guard armour is there, and yes, there are spikes :D , but they look visually distinct from their loyalist brethren. When you get down to it, this hobby of ours is a fairly visual one, so it would be good to see GW go the extra mile and fill in the gaps between the fluff and their ranges.
