Re-writing 40K

Post by Spevna » Fri Oct 29, 2010 3:52 am

This guy on Warseer (and his gaming group)has taken it upon himself to re-write the rules as well as the codices. I haven't had a look at the PDF's yet, just the comments/posts on the forum. I think it all looks quite interesting so far and, in a lot of cases, seems to be much more intuitive/logical.

I would be interested to see what the more experienced and rules savvy of us make of it.

Looks interesting.

When you first said re-writing, I though you meant the fluff, which I was going to point out the Dornian Heresy (Rogal Dorn turned trator rather than Horus). A rather interesting read.

Here are the World Eaters from this timeline.

I have had a flick through the basic rulebook (split into two PDF's) and it weighs in at a hefty 26 pages ;)

I really like the look of it. I reckon it would play very smoothly and much faster than what we have now. The parts I like so far are;

Rolling for priority and then alternating between each stage rather each player taking a whole turn at once.
Ability for squads to split fire
Pre-measuring
Rolling equal to or above your BS to hit (SMs have a BS3, Orks BS5)

Both interesting ideas (modified rules and the Dornian Heresy).

If people wanted to take a shot at them, I'd be happy to play. I do think that 5th edition is the best 40k ruleset so far and I LIKE true line of sight (unlike the guy who wrote the variant). There are places where things could be improved though.

Given the time to have a proper read of it, I would love to give you a game Prim. I reckon this looks like a lot of fun.

I think that 5th Ed are the best rule set in that they cater for what the game has become, a war game as opposed to a scenario driven skirmish game. That is where other editions came unstuck. They tried to apply RT rules to something bigger than the original game was written for.
