Sisters of Battle

Post by kojibear » Sat Nov 13, 2010 2:39 am

Hi Guys

It seems there are a lot of 40K players out there! I am inclined to jump on to the wagon.

I have been looking at the Sisters. They appear to be Space Marines without implants and upgrades but with a whole lot of crazed piety and reverence for the Emperor.

Nevertheless, they are kind of appealing.

Am I right in that a starting army needs:

1 HQ (Cannoness)
2 Squads of troops (Battle Sisters)

?

In addition to that, the Sisters have these flying nuns with jet packs for fast attacks, Seraphims.

Next, they have some ground heavy hitters, Battle Sisters with heavy weapons.

Coming next on to the field of battle is their Immolators and Exorcists.

Finally, the Sisters also have access to a lot of assassins.

I guess my question is has any every played with or against these heavenly creatures of righteousness? What were your impressions?

Thanks all. Hope you are having a good weekend. :D

I have a small collection of sisters, but I have never used them.
Sisters suffer from two overwhelming flaws
1.) You need quite a lot of them for an army.
2.) They are all metal so the cost of an army is much higher than most others in the game.
Aside from that, they look very cool and interesting to play. If you want to borrow mine and try a small game, then thats cool with me.

Koji - Iagree - Sisters have some very cool stuff, but Id start by borrowing Prim's and then going from there. I've actually never played against SoB, which indicates how uncommon they are, but as Prim says, from a practical standpoint theyre not a very powerful army unless you have lots, and that lots is gonna cost you. I believe GW are looking at releasing plastic SoB sets, but I read that little nugget of info in the context of "making plastic sister sets is proving to be a bit of a bugger" threads in other forums. So, it may be some time before they get their (much needed) new codex.

Anyway, give Prim's a shotty, and see how it goes from there.

Sculpting the robes onto the arms is a causing problems since its difficult to get the arms to fit the model in more than just one position. At least, thats what I read somewhere on the web.

They should just sell em with bare (armour clad) arms and separate stick-on robe sleeves. Or a stick of green stuff :D

I think they can be one of the hardest hitting armies in the game defiantly one of the better shooting armies out there... and not bad in hand to hand.. they are a bit of a glass hammer...meaning they dish it out much better than they take it... They need a new codex but the models are all aces... not a bad one in the bunch as far as I can see.

I'm with the Madmiral. Go with what looks cool and with a theme you like. I've played Orks for years because I love the simple brutality of the Boyz and tounge in cheek silliness of Grots, malfunctioning weapons and Wierdboyz and the like. I played them when ,due to the rules, they were getting shredded by Tau gun lines every game. I play them now that they are (until recently), the Kings of the Horde. I'll play them when the new Blood Angel/Dark Eldar super fast deep striking assault monsters shred them without breaking a sweat. The rules always change, but if you stick to what you like for style reasons, it will never let you down.
I doubt that with Codex creep, Sisters would be a competitive tournament army, but I could be wrong. And if they die and die horribly, they die martyrs. They will be avenged in time. That time being the release of a new Witch Hunters codex.
...and now his Head was full of nothing but Inchantments, Quarrels, Battles, Challenges, Wounds, Complaints, Amours, and abundance of Stuff and Impossibilities.....

Well said, Konrad. You shame me, with my talk of waiting for new codex and doing trial games.

Nope, Konrad is 100% correct - buy the army that appeals to your gut instinct. If you do that, then you will be able to stick with em come fair weather or foul. Its a long term hobby, this is, and you have to have a reason to collect something other than "it wins lots of games at the moment".

Sisters also have those really cool penitent engines. Those are kick ass models :D

Or you could do like some A.D.D. gamers do and buy an army of everything... I am almost there unless they come out with a new race by 2012 I should have every army in 40k except for Eldar... they are going to be a good one for 2013...

Only because you have 2 marine armies counting for 5.
And its not ADD, its OCD. There is a huge difference.
