How Many Armies Do You Have?

Like you all now I am new to the hobby and before I started I decided that I only want to get involved in 1 army that I spend all my available hobby time on. The reasons for this is because I love to perfect things and believe that it is always possible to improve something, and because my hobby time is limited and I don't want to spread my time out too thin on too many armies. This is easy to say now however since I don't know what will happen in the future, BUT if I get to say my will , I'd say that I would only like to be involved in my one space marine chapter.

Meeting many good people here on this forum I have understood that many own more than a single army though, so I am interested in the average number of armies that you guys have.

Please vote and add some comments on why you chose to get more than one army or why you choose to only play with one army. Also add what armies you own if you'd like to.

People who own many different chapters/craftworlds etc. of one race, please count each of them as a different army.

Furthermore, there is not a higher number than 10 in the voting, if you happen to have more, add as a comment!

I have Khorne CSM and an Ork army that is very much WIP.

I chose Khorne because I like the idea of chainsword swinging nutters.

I chose orks because I love the old metal minis from the late 80's and decided to take a walk down memory lane by doing an army of them.

I guess you could count that as 7 armies, depending on if you are counting by army or by codex. All of these armies clock in at 1500 points or higher.
I can also field 500 points each of Necrons and Sisters of Battle

I have 4 (-ish) armies, or will do soon enough.
My main army is a Slaanesh worshiping Chaos Marine Army (NOT the Emperor's Children). I picked 'em because a) I'm a pervert at heart b) I am obsessed with purple and c) I hate Khorne with a passion.

I also have a Daemon Army which also can be used in WFB. It's also pretty heavily weighted towards Slaanesh. I chose these guys because I had some Daemons anyway and they play so differently to pretty much anything out there in the 40K universe.

3rd are my Craftworld Eldar. Just over 2K of these guys painted up. I got them because they are amazing models, fluffwise they are the mortal enemies of Slaanesh and again because they play so differently than the other two.

Finally, I have a bunch of Dark Eldar on the way. Again there are two reasons I got these guys. First up, the models are amazing! Some of GW's best. They are also the 40K equivalent of my beloved WFB Dark Elves which I have several thousand points worth of.

Nice, your Slaanesh army sounds very interesting, I take it you made a custom CSM chapter? Are there any pictures of your army?

first up black templars, because I really like modelling and creating a different look and pose on each individual model. Black templars allows for that in ample supply, from different bits to individual heraldry to crusade marking. That and I like black

secondly, blood angels..... I started them on a whim about 2 days ago. I didn't choose them, THEY chose me no no, the models are fantastic and the rules are just cool.

Hmmm reasons why I have different armies....
OCD. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, also known as Pokemon Syndrome. I am psychologically driven to "catch 'em all!"
When I came to Japan 6 years ago I had no models with me. I go some IG and some marines after maybe 1 year. When the new Dark Angels were released I picked them up and after that my collection just seemed to grow exponentially. When Codex Space Marines came out I decided to split up my Dark Angels collection (around the 200 model count at that point) and put the assault troops into creating my Raven Guard and the scouts into making my Crimson Fists. I cant remember why I bought nids. I think I bought some genestealers to use for a 400 point tournament and then it all went nuts. I got the majority of my Space Wolves from ebay at a very cheap price and they sat around collecting dust for a long time. The Mantis Warriors I got to play in the Badab Campaign that Badruck, Voss, Asche and myself started. The Blood Angels I picked up because the new models looked cool. I got the Eldar since Jus was selling them, but it will probably be a while before they see the tabletop. I also plan on buying Dark Eldar now that I have some money back in the UK, though I will be waiting a few months for Maelstrom to have another sale....

1) Craftworld Eldar: about 6000 or 7000pts, including a titan and a cobra super heavy. Probably about 2000pts of it painted I bought em cos eldar, squats, orks and marines were the only models available at the time and my mate wanted squats and orks were never really my thing. I did get marines, though. Long time ago now, mind you...

Anyway - me's a lifer eldar player. The painting theme of the army is: slow

2) Plague Marines: about 3000pts of fully, gloriously pustulently painted plague marines. Death Guard, and every last one of em is converted in some way Over and above this, a squad of 7 bikers, a lord on a palanquin, a sorceror, a greater daemon, and Typhus are all in the works. I got these guys as I see them as being different to my eldar in every way imaginable. The painting theme of the army is: variations on the colour green, and weathering.

3) Dark Eldar: my current work in progress I'm still buying/painting these chaps, but am aiming for about 3000pts. Hopefully they will be done by the Golden Week game. They were bought purely for the models (well, fluff, a bit. mwahahahaha, and whatnot) and the painting theme of the army is: improving my airbrush skills, and painting fast-but-tabletoply-nice.

Right now, however, all of the above are kinda on hold till I get some more Cryx painted, as Winter Blitz is getting worryingly close and all I have ready is one warcaster and a mechanical flea...
