Badruck's Thousand Sons Discussion

Post by Admiral-Badruck » Tue Jan 11, 2011 10:59 pm

I will have Fabulous Knights... someday but I need to get what I have built and painted first... and when I do get them built they will be Tzeench looking so every one save some money for some tomatoes to throw. I know most of this group hates the idea that is why I am going to do it.>>>

@Badruck - Since you will disagree with everything I say you can stop reading this post now.
@Everyone else - This is my advice for the admiral which he will surely ignore:

I dont hate the idea. I think using Grey Knight rules for 1k sons is fine. The presence of lots of psychic powers in the list fits the theme of the 1k Sons very well. I would have no problems with anyone using the rules like that.
However, the point of making them Tzeentch and not Grey Knights is purely for how they look on the table top. It has nothing to do with their rules or anything else and is a purely aesthetic choice. That being the case it raises the question, why use Grey Knight models? The Knights look nothing like regular marines let alone 1k Sons or similar Tzeentch models. They'll be covered in Inquisition symbols and logos which you will need to file off.
Why not use 1k Sons models or at least chaos marines (you can convert khorne bunny helmets into 1k Sons with just a strip of green stuff) to make a post heresy version? Or you can use the new FW MkIV armour with some parts from Tomb Kings stuck on top to make them look like pre-heresy sons. You wont need many so the cost isnt really a big issue. I think Scibor or someone makes some 'egyptian' style upgrades as well.

In short, using the rules = good, converting the models to make them look half as good as you want when there are better choices available = not good.

Im trying to avoid making pointless posts like "agreed" this year, but I have to chime and say that Prims last post was particularly on the money. Badruck - listen to the Primster - he knows his marines, dude...

sorry I did not really know how do say it... not Tzeench... I meant to say 30k...Thousand Sons ... I know the GKs look and I am sure that will that little elbow grease and a lot of conversion I will have very cool army that will be unique to all the other GKs out there... I am use some people will pick them up and give them a go. model count should be low so the amount of conversions that will have to go in to them will not be all that much... certainly less than my World Eaters in some ways and certainly more in others... I am keen to build armies that no one around here has...and I cant do that if I play a stock list of any kind of Marines... so I have to work very hard to make things unique... either buy list builds or by chapter.. or by theme... I will get one 1500 point army of every codex in the GW line... mark my words...

But the thing is, no matter what you do, your Grey Knights will be unique but they wont look like Pre-heresy Thousand Sons, simply because Grey Knights dont look like Pre-heresy Thousand Sons. I'm not saying that you wont do your best or that your army wont look good. I'm just saying that you are choosing the wrong raw materials. Seriously, Forge World Mk III and IV armour with some Tomb Kings and maybe High Elf parts will create some wicked looking 30k 1K Sons. Grey Knights will create some models painted in 1k Sons colours that look like Grey Knights that had their Inquisition logos filed off.

I will just have to prove that wrong... they will look good and they will look different an I am not a fluff buff so I will not be bothered to make them look exactly like any concept art and there will surely be some Tomb kings parts mixed with some Chaos Thousand sons parts mixed with GKs I think they will look great...the FW models are fine but they are not what I want to use...

a question: if youre not into the fluff, and youre going to be using the new GK rules, then wheres the thousand sons connection? Why not just convert a bunch of GK however you like, paint them however you like (this can be red and gold if you want) and call them the Legion of Badruck? If you have no rules connection with the 1000sons, then if you want it to be the 1000sons then the only way you can do so is to model them to look like 1000sons, according to the fluff (as the fluff is what defines how the 1ksons look.)

I am confused. I have had a read through and this is what I got from it all;

1) Use the Grey knight rules for a 30K Thousand Sons army.
2) Use the Grey knight models for the army.
3) The models won't look like the Thousand Sons but will be Egyptian themed.

So your Thousand Sons will not be using the Chaos Codex, will not be using Thousand Sons models, will not look like the Thousand Sons GW artwork.

Your Thousand Sons will be using the Grey Knigh Codex, will be using the Grey Knight models, will look Egyptian-ish.

Looks to me like you will have an Egyptian themed Grey Knigh army.
