I have been looking around for information about instrument of chaos but can't get a good grip on how it works, anyone care to give me a thorough explanation?

I have understood it as this;
If the close combat of a turn ends in a draw, I will get one extra wound to allocate on the enemy and by doing so winning the battle automatically.
and then possibly:
forcing my opponent to take a leadership test which could maybe result in a sweeping advance for me.

Is this correct?
If it i so then it is a very nice 5 point upgrade.

Not quite.
You count as winning by 1 wound, though you dont actually cause an extra wound. For 5 points its not bad, but usually bloodletters will be winning most combats anyway, and winning by 1 isn't a reliable way to break a unit. Its not a necessity when compared to an icon, but when it is useful, it'll make its points back. Basically, get some if you have the points spare.

Ah, ok. Thanks!

Also about the Blessing of the Blood God upgrade;
just realised how awesome it is against units like mephiston for a very cheap price, is it right that the lord of death would not stand much of a chance fighting a Khorne DP in cc?

Yep, against Mephiston the odds are definitely in Khorne's favour.

if you have Blessing of the Blood God on your guy can you save against things like Doom and being turned into a squig?

Bleesing of the Blood God

"the daemon has a 2+ invulnerable save against wounds caused by psychic powers or force weapons"

so no, it wouldnt do diddly against either doom or squigification, as neither of them cause wounds. Likewise, it wouldnt stop you from being turned into a chaos spawn or any similar transformation spell.

That, btw, was advice on playing daemons from me, MiJ, an eldar-player-who-doesnt-know-anything-about-daemons, to you, senor badruck, he of the "i play khorne daemons, listen to me for how to win".

However did I manage to acquire this arcane and sagacious nugget of information? well, I started by looking up Blessing of the Blood God in the chaos daemons codex. And then stopped, cos all I needed to know was there, clear upon the page.

:roll:

If only there were someone on this forum who was an expert at chaos stuff.
Oh well.
Kharn is "immune to psychic powers"
This means that ANY powers targeting him have no effect.
E.g. Jaws of the World Wolf WON'T touch him, but other models under the line are effected as normal.
Doom has no effect since it targets Kharn. However, if Kharn is in a unit the unit will still be effected.
Guide (since it targets the enemy unit) will work as normal.
