Get your motor runnin' Gorkamorka!

Post by Konrad » Tue Jun 25, 2013 1:09 am

You feelin' the need for speed? Is your inner Ork shoutin' , "Waaaaaaagh"! Sick of GW price hikes and wish you could find a game you could play with half a dozen miniatures and a toy tank? Look no further. It is here and it is called, "GORKAMORKA"!

I got in a couple games of Gorkamorka the other day. It was so much fun I thought I'd shout out a bit about it.
A short history lesson for the uninitiated:

Gorkamorka was put out by the now defunct Specialist Games division of Games Workshop. It is a skirmish level miniatures game. The scale and rules are very similar to it's predecessor, Necromunda. It has a campaign system. So you create a "Mob" of warriors who as they battle, gain experience, skills, wealth or get injured, killed, or enslaved by rival players.

If you are familiar with Games Workshop, you know Orks. Gorkamorka is about Orks. And it is about Trucks, Traks (tanks), Bikes, and more Orks. The aforementioned Orks and more Orks race around in the aforementioned vehicles, shootin', smashin', lootin', bashin', crashin' and burnin' a path to fame and fortune (or wreck and ruin) across the surface of a desert world. This world is a desert because in many ages past, the Orks crashed their roughly moon-sized spaceship into it, eradicating most of the nice bits and leaving the surface littered with wreckage. The Orks gather in "Mobz" and travel about looking for bits of useful wreckage to trade to their leaders, the "Meks" who hope to someday refashion their spaceship, and find another planet to crash into. Imagine "The Road Warrior" with, well.... with Orks, and you have Gorkamorka.

It's easy to get started. As easy as borrowing half a dozen Orks from me or Badrukk and picking up a toy truck from the 100円 shop. Terrain is just as easy. We played our first game on a desert colored sheet. The desert terrain was literally just rocks and gravel I dug out of the parking lot.
I got my rules here http://www.miteyheroes.co.uk/mektown/go ... index.html "Da Roolz" is the basic game rules. "Da Uver Book" is the campaign rules.
An Ork's life is brutal, noisy, dangerous and quite often short. The difference between fame, glory, riches and an embarrassing crash and burn can often be a single die roll. The game mechanics themselves are a bit cumbersome and random. Almost invariably, after a game you'll discover you and/or your opponent did something wrong or forgot to roll for this or that and will have to beg forgiveness. The rules are not written that well and invariably you'll just have to come to an agreement with your opponent on what to do in specific situations.
If you can do that, I can promise Gorkamorka is the most exciting, edge of your seat, exercise in vehicular mayhem you will ever participate in from the safety of your game table. Get your motor runnin'.....
