As winter approaches... (A wee fluff piece)

As winter approaches the good and honest citizens of the Old World can at last breathe a sigh of relief. It seems that the Dark elf raiders that have ravaged settlements up and down the coast these past few moons have retired to the sanctuary of their Black Ark.
Loaded down with treasures plundered from the barrow tombs of the Vampire counts, hulking Ork slaves and dozens of heads taken from their hated High Elven foes, the Druchii will sail back to their frigid homeland well content with the season's plundering. Their fell god Khaine, the lord of murder will surely be pleased at the good work done in his name, as their King Malekith will be with their more worldly tribute.
However, the Old World shall have only a brief respite from the terrors that have plagued them these last few months. For the bitter cold will surely provoke the Beasts of the forest to emerge from their lairs in search of food, drink and plunder. Beastmen scouts have already been seen near Empire and Brettonian settlements bordering the great forests. To sour matters further, this year, the Chaos moon Morrsleib is in ascendancy which is surely the bleakest of omens.

In other words, I am putting my dark Elves on the shelf for a wee while and busting out my Beastmen. Thanks to GW though, half my army will need re-basing, new movement trays will have to be made and reinforcements bought and assembled. D'oh!
Still, I should have an 8th edition compliant (but only partially painted) army ready in a few weeks. It all depends on whether Santa Claus can fit all those Dark Eldar and Beasties on his sleigh.

The leaves have begun to fall and the Asrai of Athel Loren know well that the snows of winter shall soon follow.
Sightings of forest spirits are less frequent and the families' spites less mischievous. All feel the lethargy of the coming cold.
The Wood Elves have begun the Autumn equinox celebrations, wardancers decorated in a myriad of colours blend in perfectly with the colours of the forest as they dance to the shrill laughs of glee from the children and the gasps of awe from their parents. Yet such merriment conceals heavy hearts, for Orion's hunt has come to its end and Ariel's magical powers have begun to wein. Only the wine that flows freely can lift the Asrai's spirits, warming cheeks and hearts alike. For soon shall come the Beastmen, their gutteral cries even now pierce the night's cheer, though too few in number to dare step into Athel Loren's domain. For now.
Tomorrow, the celebrations end. Tomorrow, preparations begin. Spears shall be sharpened, and bow strings pulled tight and steeds called back from hidden pastures. Tomorrow the Asrai prepare, and all Beastmen should beware!

Lesser races, hearken! Do you hear the trumpets sounding? the distant beat of many hooves?. As winter approaches, so do the scions of Ulthuan.
By the decree of the Phoenix King, Ulthuan has sent a great host to establish a bastion in the heart of the Old world, in part to provide aid to her beleaguered allies, and in part to show off the shiny splendour of her armies such that all who lay eyes upon the glittering host will stand in awe and weep.
Venturing forth from their island home, the High elves are ready to dazzle all opposition with cleaniness and immaculate presentation as well as deadly finesse. Proud as ever in their Elven mail polished to a mirror sheen, stand ready to face off against any threat, be it the fearsome beast-headed unloviness that has begun to emerge from the woodland or foul green skinned unlovliness.
Emissaries have been sent to Athel Loren to facilitate formalities and greetings. But the spectre of tensions past still looms hauntingly over the high born and their forest folk cousins. A careless word from either party could stir up more than just furtive glances..

Great stuff Jus

Had be snickering and chuckling away!
I can just imagine the High Elves making their slow way through Athel Loren. All that dirt and filth! They'd probably take one look at the wood elf children rolling around in the mud and head right back where they came from. Though I am sure they'd emerge from the woods a hundred years later and with a hundred arrows protruding out of their behinds.
You Mike and I will have to get a game in sometime before the new year!
The impeccably clean High Elves are on their way to seek an accord with their estranged kin in Athel Loren, when suddenly, they are assaulted on every front by horribly filthy Beastmen intent on soiling all the High Elves courtly attire! But wait! The woods come alive as the brush is pulled aside to reveal more unkempt, unclean, vile creatures...whoops! It's the High Elves long lost kin to the rescue! Can they brush a millenia of resentment under the ah...figurative woodland carpet to crush the common enemy? Or will it become one great bloody free for all? No doubt those mischievous spites will be hoping for the latter! Those naughty spites!

From the frothy caldron of blood... the minions of KHORNE pour across the land like ravenous creatures reaping the souls and harvesting skulls of the mortals eviscerated in a great wake of carnage. Fear us or confront us by winters end none shall stay the tide of blood waged by the hell blades of the blood God.

Sorry, did you mean the metal band Korn? Or maybe the faction from Hordes, Skorne?
Other than that, nice bit of background there.

well, I suppose Khorne (with an H) is god of war, fury and bloodshed. I suspect correct spelling and punctuation arent something he encourages in his followers...

But you think he'd at least want them to get his name right.
