Grand campaign promotional and suggestions

Post by jus » Tue Feb 01, 2011 3:33 am

First off, I think the idea of holding this grand campaign is quite grand! Thanks goes to Primarch for planning all the particulars, and I would encourage all WFB players, whether locally or abroad, to participate! :D It's going to be grand. Those of you who don't have a fantasy battle army yet, repent. And start one.

Now I've looked through the faction listings and overall agree with the categorical placement of most of them. But I think I would have placed them a little differently. I know, there are probably balance issues and fluff issues to consider when trying to pidgeon hole 15 factions into 5 groups of allies.

but I would have liked the traditional forces of order being empire, dwarves and High elves. Empire and high elves became best friends ever since Teclis taught humans magic.

I've always seen woodelves as a neutral faction, and since their fluff is closely tied to Brettonia they seem like a good pairing. Tomb kings is also neutral too I believe, or at least not out to kill everyone..just nagash. (not too sure about that though)

Like I said before, allying the factions isn't easy, so I am not too fussed if they left as is for the grand campaign.

Lastly, I'd like to try a giant faction on faction battle (2 vs 2, or even 3 vs 3) e.g The chaotic vs The Ancients.
There might be some issues there with deployment and power dice but we can cross that bridge when we get to it. Who wants to play some Fantasy Battle?

I'm all for it. The forces of Chaos and the Dark Elves ready to bring ruin and enslavement on all those who resist our will.

But High Elves and Dwarves hate each other. Its not just about who is allied with who, but which ones have similar goals.
E.g. Zards and HElves have their own ideas about maintaining balance and Wood Elves just want to live in harmony with nature. (And even though WElves and Bretts are neighbors, they fight as often as they team up). Humans (Brett and Emp) and Dwarves are basically the front line against the bad guys. I'm sure DElves, Skaven and VCounts despise each other, but thats because they hate everyone. They are grouped up because they are all about looking out for number 1. Chaos is a no-brainer. Orcs, Ogres and Tomb Kings are in their own group because they will happily kill anyone. The Ogres and TKs are also probably the least represented factions in the game whilst there are at least 2 Orc players in the area,(3 if you count the fact that I have orcs and 4 if you count Badruck mentioning starting orcs once they get a new release).

I'm sure there are a dozen other combos you could use to split the armies up, but this is the one that made sense to me. :D

Ever since I got back in the hobby last November I have been totally focused on 40k so I missed all the fuss about this Grand Campaign. When starting I thought that more people were into 40k but the fantasy events so far seem much more interesting at this point.

I gotta say, after having a look at the hexagon world map, the factions etc. I really want to participate! I think that this is a great idea and it seems like a lot of fun, cant wait to field my daemons. I actually pulled out an old copy of Warhammer: Dark Omen to help me get through the waiting.

Thanks for coming up with such a great idea!

By the way, can the original WHFB map split into takeable regions be used in the campaign or is it unavailable due to copyright?

yes it gladdens the heart to see so fine a campaign so warmly recieved. And the Ancients take the lead!

Its good to see some balance to factions too, in terms of the local meta. We might not have an ogre kingdoms or tomb kings (yet) but there seems to be at least 3 -4 people on nagoyahammer to represent each faction.

Ancients : kojibear, jus, prim, frans

Ruin : ToD, Ash, Prim

Chaos : Seb, voss, badruck, Mike

wicked : jus, prim, Mike

order : Maeda san, Prim, prim and Prim...

an the original WHFB map split into takeable regions be used in the campaign
I think so. But the one that prim supplied seems to be working ok.

Yup, the map that prim provided is excellent, and i have nothing bad to say about it, just thought that it could be interesting with regions with the names of cities and places etc. Not that it would affect the gameplay but it would be cool fiction-wise.

The hexagon map was all I could manage to put together in such a way that it was easy to divide into sections and keep up to date easily. Plus, given that the various factions in WFB are really spread out, it would be unrealistic to use an official map.

I still think more people are into 40k. I put this campaign together to help the fantasy players get more games in and to encourage the people with both armies to break out their square bases for a change.
