The Gobbo Project

Post by The Other Dave » Sun Jul 17, 2011 7:36 am

Rather than clutter up the painting thread with goblin pics, I thought I'd make a hobby log thread thingy.

Most recent is the completion of a little "unit filler" shrine:

Turned out all right, I reckon.

This thread also gives me a place to mention that I've found a solution to the "bolt thrower problem" - namely, the huge disconnect between their points cost and dollar cost. To wit: Warlord Games' imperial Roman Scorpio battery, 3 bolt throwers for 18 GBP from Maelstrom (which is, not incidentally, the cost of a single "Finecast" goblin bolt thrower from GW). Stick some mushrooms on 'em and they'll look plenty goblin-y.

Yeah, they should look good. They'll be smaller than GW models, but then Gobbos are small anyway.

I guess I forgot to update this hobby log thread as I painted - the trouble with mass painting / dipping is that it feels like less of an achievement, I guess, heh.

That is, until you're done!

Having finished the trolls (posted in the main painting thread), I figured there wasn't much more I wanted for this army - unless and until I can figure out a good, easy, cheap way to make some good-looking proxies for squig hoppers. It comes to (back-of-the-envelope figgering) about 2500 points, which is enough for wiggle room and the inevitable leaving-the-giant-out.

Fork. Done.

(Plus I notice that the whole dropping the camera on the floor thing is starting to show. Bother.)

Edit to add: Man, 2 1/2 years. Think how long it would have took if I'd painted like regular people.
