If I get painters block, I just do something else. There need not be any obligation or pressure to paint.

Paint when the mood takes you. The only time I ever pick up a brush is when I get the urge to paint. If I try to paint to a schedule it becomes not fun.

I'm with mus on this. The muse comes an goes - she's a fickle lass. If you don't feel like painting, then don't. There's no obligation to do so. I certainly went through a period like this, more than once, actually, and its only recently I've kinda settled on a solution that suits me (ie just leave it until you feel like it.) The only time I actually push myself to paint is if I've almost finished a mini, but kinda lose interest at the final hurdle. In that situation I try to finish it to the same standard the rest of it was done to. But, for the situation you describe my advice would defo be just leave it until you feel like it. Maybe do a wee bit prep work if you want to ease yourself out of/into it.

There's a thread on CMoN that is in a similar vein, and judging from the responses, I think it's safe to say you're not alone :)

I will also add that having a variety if bite sized task helps.

On my desk I currently have;

5 late war Germans
3 BB dwarves
3 Uncharted Seas orc ships
10 Epic deff dredds.

I just paint one or two from each little task and then, if I get bored or stale, take a break and then paint something totally different.

I too have a variety of miniatures in progress so I can work on whichever I fancy.

I also listen to audiobooks and podcasts while I paint. I find an hour or two can pass and I barely notice.

Variety does help a lot. After all that elvish nonsense recently, I've spent the past couple of days spludging goop all over some giant mutant nurgle worms. Much more fun than elves, I have to admit

A variety of models does good. (I recommend different scales (28mm, 15mm, etc.) and different styles (fantasy, sci-fi, historics). Youtube and internet radio are also good complements. Lastly, have a good nights rest often helps recharge and set the painting bug.

Thanks guys. Good advice. That c'mon thread was ace.
I tidied the mancave. Got it looking respectable like a Jamie Oliver table set for Jules. Made the cave look like a fully functioning spare bedroom but with a cunning board on a stool desk by the window.
With the right light nothing can stop me.
On the desk and for the rest of the year I have
10 marines. The last gasp for the ultramarine army.
A skaven bell
Box of Bob Murch pulp minis
Historical 15mm for 100 years war
Random Saxons
Norman knights
6 Ww2 British for my Tamiya tank and a French farmer
Pike and Shotte standard bearer
Farmer Maggot and Hounds
Random fantasy mins from citadel

Too much but I should get through it gradually.
Great suggestion about podcasts and audio as I have a new speaker for my iPod now.
Right I'm quite looking forward to it now. I'll buy a daylight bulb for night painting.

Onwards. To the mancave.
