Re: Project: Advanced Space Crusade
Those Broolian Beastmen are pretty sweet, though.
Looks like I may have to pick up a box of plastic Hive Guard to use as Zoats, too. There were metal Zoat models with heavy weapons, but the only option for ASC basically has the stats of the rank-and-file dude with the fleshborer (lower left below, for those young'uns who haven't been exposed to the glory that is Zoats - er, sorry, Space Zoats, 'cause it's 1989 and we have to put "Space" in front of everything), so the Hive Guard will take some weapon-swapping to work.
Fortunately, I have a massive bag of spare 'Nid bits from my 40K days.
Why would I want Zoats if they've just got a piddly little fleshborer? They have armor and CC attacks equivalent to Terminators (which means, not at all incidentally, that they're immune to off-the-hip bolter fire), and this snazzy rule where if you do manage to kill them with reaction fire while they're charging, they get to complete their action before actually dying. What's not to love?

@ToD - believe it or not, I actually have a Space Zoat, which I would happily donate to the cause. I think it needs a new gun, but apart from that it's a pucka old school mini.

Nah - I want more than one, and I'd still prefer to avoid metal if I can. Thanks for the offer, though!me_in_japan wrote:@ToD - believe it or not, I actually have a Space Zoat, which I would happily donate to the cause. I think it needs a new gun, but apart from that it's a pucka old school mini.

Re: Project: Advanced Space Crusade
Test mini for my chaos marine mind slaves:
Good enough, I reckon. I only notice now that I need to retouch the hilt of his sword - these models are so dang gribbly it's easy to miss stuff like that.
(Rules-wise, the chaos marines are going to need the most hacking. The rules call for a missile launcher, and I haven't got one, and it looks as if the only way to really get one is in finecast. Plus I got a few dudes with close combat weapons in the Dark Vengeance set. So, swap out the missile launcher for a couple CC specialists, kludge in krak grenades for some anti-armor ability to balance out the loss of melta-missiles, and see how they do in the real world, I guess.)

Re: Project: Advanced Space Crusade
those are quite possibly my favourite CSM models at the moment. Very reminiscent of the old RoC stuff. Nice PJ, too. Very Tzeentchy

Heh, I was shooting for Alpha Legion, but whatevs. They are nice models, tho, to be sure - really pushing the limits of what they can do in plastic.me_in_japan wrote:those are quite possibly my favourite CSM models at the moment. Very reminiscent of the old RoC stuff. Nice PJ, too. Very Tzeentchy

Alpha Legion, Night Lords, 1000 Sons. There are too many blue chaos marines to choose from.

Re: Project: Advanced Space Crusade
I replaced the right arm of the guy with the power axe with a Marine missile launcher. Neds the odd gribbly bit, but I think it works. Better than the official one, anyway. The Other Dave wrote:(Rules-wise, the chaos marines are going to need the most hacking. Ooh, that's a nice fit. I may have to search around on bitz stores on eBay a bit.

Re: Project: Advanced Space Crusade
Well, huh. I guess I should have thought to check sooner, but it turns out (totally unsurprisingly, on refection) that rather than ordering acrylic bases all the way from the States or wherever, I could just find a place in-country to cut up acrylic sheets to order.
