Thanks mate. Another day another unit done. I was experimenting with painting on the sprues.

Hopton's men at dawn. February 1646. Definitely a lot quicker! A bit haphazard with the flash after breaking them off though. I found I had 13 soldiers on the sprue but only 12 sets of arms. Is this common with Warlord Games? https://imgur.com/gallery/KyCgQIv

All quiet on Torrington Hill. February 1646. https://imgur.com/gallery/5SgeAHP

I love this proverb. So true.

I think that is unique to the ECW set. There is an extra body depending on if you want to build pike or shot? I've never used that set myself, but I do recall comments on the old Warlord forum about it. The set is sold as 12 bodies per sprue, so you haven't lost out or been cheated in that regard. If you have any spare arms from other sprues/sets, you might be able to use the body somehow.

Thank you. That's good to know. Interesting choice for them. Nice to have some extra models.

Today some veteran troops for Fairfax and a newly painted hovel.

It is with great pleasure to announce that after 8 years the project is done! Right Lovejoy, have you painted your forces? Lovejoy? Lovejoy? Hello? This was your idea remember. Lovejooooooooyyyyyyyy! Hahahah

Finished painting another 8 year project today. Thank you lockdown. It's been a terrible time so I'm glad I've managed to use the time to get two big projects finished. I first had the idea to paint this era when my son was born. I'm really pleased I've finished. There were times when I thought I would never even get started on the big battalia starter box.
That's enough painting of the English Civil War for one lifetime. Here's the Royalist infantry of Hopton. Hopton's troops included Welsh and Cornish soldiers in the later stages of the war in the Westcountry.

Now just need to build the terrain.
I'm free...... for now.
Will be taking some photos of the Parliamentary troops shortly. I've run out of glue and flock! Lol
Everything is painted though. 2013 - 2020. A good day today my friends. A good day indeed. What is it Tyres says at the end of the clubbing episode of Spaced? "My work here is done". :)

Thanks for all the encouragement with this guys. As a footnote I have decided to field an equal number of troops on each side to make it more accessible as a game. As Prim pointed out early on the numbers from history would make for a rather one sided battle on the tabletop. Also I don't have 2000 cavalry a side or whatever it was. Bolstering the Royalists with more cavalry units will make it closer to what I want to achieve, (more on that later). For now though, everything I originally intended to paint for the project has been completed. Now for a break from batch painting. That way lies darkness I tell you. Can't wait to paint a singular model again. I've been set free.

Well done!
Though you know, no project is ever really finished. There are always more units you could add, just that one extra piece of terrain, etc.
So congratulations on finishing your ECW project so far! :D

Lol  Thanks Prim. The Dragoons are in the post! I wish I was joking.
What's your opinion on these gaming tiles for a board? https://store.warlordgames.com/collecti ... ystem-pack
Storage is more of an issue now than ever so I was wondering if these would work well for building a board. Only 3x3 though.

Yeah, I've seen those. Sarissa Precision makes them. You may want to compare prices and options between Warlord and Sarissa.
They look like a good starting point for a board, being modular. If you're planning to glue on buildings and other terrain, you can add basing effects and flock to blend the building into the base for a more realistic look.
The only down side I can see is that they lack depth, so rivers and ditches would be harder to do. If you're just doing towns and fields they're fine.

All done bar the model church now.

The guy from the cover of the P&S rulebook finally got his own unit. He's waited long enough. This was one of the first minis completed.
