Torrington 1646: An historical build.
Re: Torrington 1646: An historical build.
Back to it then. A productive day of undercoating and assembling Royalists.
And making silly videos on you tube. Business as usual here. Keeping busy.

Re: Torrington 1646: An historical build.
After much umming and ahhing over many years I have decided to paint some of the Royalist troops ridiculously bright chaos colours. This way we can tell them clearly from the NMA soldiers of Cromwell. Also it makes some very laborious batch painting more fun. I'll probably tone the colour down for the rest of the troops. Just wanted to get the inspiration going. Only another 78 Pike and Shotte infantrymen to go. What a box of models this has been. Can't believe what an undertaking it has become. I have 11 days off work so should be able to make some progress.

Finally some useful research found on coat colours. Could have done with this 8 years ago.

Just ordered myself a church. I nearly bought a Pike and Shotte coach but I was good. First bit of shopping for this project since 2013. I will soon have the models finished and then I can start on the terrain.

You're welcome Prim. This is the home of the project after all. I've ordered a Norman church from ebay. Looks like an independent seller. Will let you know how it comes out. I nearly went for the one on Warlord but they were saying there were delays due to Covid.
In other news I manged to finish all the cavalry from that big starter box set today so to celebrate I got the the whole project down from the shelves and had some garden reenactment. My neighbour George looked though the hedge and said hello, he didn't comment bless him. Everyone loves a bit of historical garden wars surely.
Here we see a unit of firelocks with Fairfax army in tow surprising a Royalist camp of Hopton's men. It was so hot today I could hardly see what I was shooting but am happy with some of these. Spent most of last night reading up on the battle and having another look at the Pike and Shotte collection. Currently bidding on some Dragoons for the Royalist side. A project like this can be added to as time goes on. I'm keen to build a model village of the era and was considering 3x3 modular tiles to make it easy to pack away and play in the garden. Warlord do some of these which interlock, not sure how easy they are.
When this project is completed I hope to start a Japanese historical collection for this next decade. Some fantastic scenery available. Test of Honor is it? Good to finally have my hobby mojo back.
Anyway photos.

It seems like the ECW has played out on every flat surface in and around your house. But this does go to show how painting a few models here and a few there adds up. Well done!
