The Road to NagoyaHammer 2015

Post by Primarch » Wed Oct 08, 2014 11:18 am

With next year's NagoyaHammer booked, it's time for me to start working out what I intend to do army wise. I've always found that painting towards an event gives me more motivation to get stuff done and a deadline to work to.

Now, as most of you are no doubt aware I have been focussing pretty heavily on historical miniatures this year, however that is going to change a little in the coming months. I need to clear my workbench and then I will be on to painting 40K. Likewise, I have a few historical games lined up between now and the end of November, but after that I plan on playing a lot more 40K to get back into the swing of things and try to figure out a balanced list for NH.

Right now, my plan is to expand my Raven Guard by adding some marines from my stockpile. After that I will see which army I feel like doing next.

For those of you who enjoy the historicals, don't worry, I'll keep playing those too and working on my armies when I feel like a change, but I'm pretty well sorted for all the games I play, so I can spare a few months to focus on more grim-dark stuff.

The first order of business is getting my painting desk cleared. I have a unit of Napoleonic British half done, some Waffen-SS, a couple of tanks and a few bits and pieces underway. I also promised Komura san I would have a couple more Samurai units done by the end of November. So I will work to get all that done and try and put together some 40K minis as and when I have time.

The road to NagoyaHammer 2015 starts here!

Over the past few weeks I've been assembling a few more marines and sorting through what I already have.
First off, my goal is to paint the core of my army, which I have been using since the 5th Ed. Marine dex came out.
The first step is my assault marines.
Shrike and a full squad are done, with another squad underway. The extra captain (a Spevna original) may be redone at some stage to match the rest of the army.

Next up are the 3 tactical squads. Again, 1 squad is done. There is also a librarian to do.

The final part of my core are some vanguard veterans (also by Spevna) and some vehicles. The scouts are finished.

After that, it's on to getting some additional troops done for variety.
Some converted terminators, a vindicator, a stalker/hunter and a land speeder.

And finally, a squad of jump pack equipped vanguard veterans, a small unit of sternguard (probably going to make this up to a full 10 man team), a command squad and chaplain and a devastator squad.

That gives me 81 infantry (some are already part done) and 6 vehicles to do over the next few months. :D

Aren't those the guys Horus squashed on Istavan IV? What a bunch of posers. If you really want to paint black join the Black Legion.

Fixed that for you. Anyway, I'm not painting them black. I'm painting them dark grey. :D

I guess I should update this thread with some pictures of my progress.

Some games and some experience have caused me to change up my priorities for painting, so a lot of the stuff at the top of the thread won't be done for a while.

Dark Grey Crows. Nice. :) I'll pass word to the marksmen the vets and champions wear white helms. The models look good in their finery and regimentation.
