I wasn't feeling the chaos marines, so here's Pious Vorne:

A very well-adjusted young lady, I'm sure you'll agree. It's a pretty straightforward paint job, lots of drybrushing and washing, but it fits the character. It was my first time doing flames, and I think they turned out more or less OK, and I let weathering be the big equalizer on the writing on her eviscerator, but overall I'm pleased, and it's one of my favorite models in the set as well. Just three chaos marines to go!

Nice work on the Rogue Trader and the pyromaniac. They look great. :D

Thanks! I talk up my lazy, tabletop-quality painting style a lot, but this whole thing has been a nice opportunity to push my painting skills a bit after painting towards armies for a long while. It's been fun!

The Chaos Marines are done:

Say what you will about the Black Legion, they have a pretty cool color scheme, and the models are nice as well (and the different angles on the head-swap are a pretty effective way to disguise the fact that it's a single pose shared between them). A bit more restrained than the craziness of the plastic Chosen, but still carrying a lot of that aesthetic. Just the big boss, Obsidious Mallex, left to do, and the set will be complete.

Edit: Arrgh, except for the little teethy bits on their armor trim. So that's fixed.

And here's Obsidious Mallex:

His face doesn't look half that bad in real life, fortunately. A scary man and, while his face is a bit wonky and I struggled with what to do about all the... demonic flesh tubes? Overall he turned out pretty well. And that's it for the core set! I think I'll hold off on getting the Ambull for a bit - I want to get some more games in and maybe focus on some other painting projects - when they release the new explorers they teased at the latest toy fair I'll be all over them.

Cool, I like the flame effects on the chaos symbol on his hammer.

Just for fun, here's the whole set, 44 models in just about 6 weeks.
