There's been a bit of a resurgence in interest in Epic at my club. I really need to dig through the fan-written stuff for E:A and see what's available.

The reason Gretchin are a nightmare to get hold of is the same reason hardly anyone fielded a lot of Howling Banshees - there were hardly any on the sprue. The Epic Ork Invasion sprue had 16 Boyz plus another 4 with heavy plasma guns - and 2 gretchin.

This is me being jealous. I need to work harder or something.

Say what you will about how they handled the rerelease with EA (and there is a lot to say about that subject) but they did at least redesign the ork infantry sprue so it gave you a reasonable number of grotz.

Why? Why am I painting this model?

Image

The Mega-Gargant. I've never much liked the look of the model, I doubt I'd ever field it for rules / army comp reasons, and yet here I am painting it. *shrug* Like the Fighta-Bommas that started this thread off, this is the base coat, over which will go mostly red, with some yellow and white details.

(It does look a heck of a lot better with a metal Great Gargant head instead of the stock head, though, I'll give it that.)

You are painting it because it is
Big
Stompy
Has lots of guns
Has lots of arms with lots of killy bits
There is a tiny, yet Epic, voice down in the primal, brutal, bestial base of your brain yelling WAAAAAAGH!
You know you hear it, don't deny it.
...and now his Head was full of nothing but Inchantments, Quarrels, Battles, Challenges, Wounds, Complaints, Amours, and abundance of Stuff and Impossibilities.....

Hm. You know, the Most Dangerous Thing is when you fiddle with army lists and realize "Hey! I only need to buy a couple models to field Army Variant X!"

'Cause I only need to buy like 3 models to field a Death Korps of Krieg army. (Heavy AA gun emplacements, of which I could get 3 from Forgeworld for 6.50GBP, or 5 from GHQ for $9.95.) And that's a tempting army, too. Huge masses of infantry, lots of super-heavies and leman russes. Le sigh...

Half of that stuff is marines, chaos and squats by the looks of things.
I would be interested in buying the marines and squats from you though. :D

You also got some of the old android models (the Necron-looking things in the third row from the bottom), which are really sought-after (or were until recently - a company recently came out with some nice Not-Necrons, which may bring their price down). True story - I e-bayed my 10 android models - not 10 stands, but 10 individual 6mm plastic models - for $50.

Even if you didn't get all that many orks, though, it's a good haul.
